Hi guys. I own a nice 83 380SL and having a problem I know has been asked and answered before but I can't recall it.


I have a fast idle problem; when you first start it; it runs high idle and if you tap the accelerator the idle will slow down for just a moment then return to fast idle. Can I get some help?

Is your ABS light on as well - if so, look to the OVP RELAY.

Only light "on" is for the brake. Not sure if it for ABS system or not. I just repaired the master cylinder and need to bleed brakes again. I also found a vac line that had been chewed by mice and repaired it. I will let you know what happens. By the way this car is for sale below KBB values, if interested. Has 89,000+ miles. If any interest let me know and I will send pics.

What is the idle? Can't hurt to check the OVP relay. There is also the Idle control unit.

I am not sure if the idle is corrected by fixing the vac. leak. I ran into another issue when I started the car to do a road test on the brakes.


Now I have a short in a wire that is causing the radio to come on and static for noise. I tried to turn off radio but no luck, pulled fuse no luck. I know the basics of tracing a wire and this should not be too very hard. I acts like a bundle of wires was also chewed by the mice and now I have to trace it.

Try cleaning Idle control valve. That fixed mine!
