Chain Tensioner Pressure Duration

Leaving the brand name aside for this question. How long should a timing chain tensioner hold its pressure and keep the chain tight? I am supposing it should be several months. When several of you store your rides for the winter are you having to do some preliminary work prior to first spring start up in relation to the timing chain? Any insight would be appreciated. I still learning about my new ride
