i believe they make them for the 05+ cars as well. they asked me 400 times to specify the year of my car. But I'm not 100% sure.

Hi Brad, I can send you a full color copy, but this one you posted covers it pretty well.

the table (included) describes each reference designater. For example, A2/13 is your amplifier and H4/1 is your left door speaker (woofer and tweeter combo) while H4/1h1 is the tweeter of your left door speaker ).

the drawing includes the connector number and the pin assignment within that connector for every connection. .

What is your plan? add to the system? replace the amp and head unit?

happy to help if I can,
Chris

I've got an Android head unit that's awesome so I'm going to replace the amplifier with a 5 channel amp and then replace all the speakers and subwoofer. I guess I was just having a hard time actually figuring out what everything means on the diagram.

I did the same in my SL55 with an android head unit and Alpine 5-channel (except only replaced the sub) and posted some info (back a page or so in this thread). Feel free to send me a note or give me a call if you have some questions.

Cheers,
Chris

FYI- on an SL65 you can retain the stock speakers and amp if you so want by using an OPTI-1 and it will save you a boatload of time and energy vs rewiring everything.

How hard is it to do an aftermarket head unit for an 06 SL65? Thing I'd would like to keep is the steering wheel functions if its possible.

Some of the Chinese manufactures are now supplying there own version of an audio-to-MOST fiber optic interface with some of these aftermarket radios (including android HUs).

I have looked in the past and I can't say that I have actually ever seen a Headunit designed for an 05 or newer. I have seen more than a few pictures that were tweaked/enlarged with photoshop (or the like) to make the chinese unit intended for the 03-04 "look" like it is made for an 05 and later ... and I have seen adds for a radio that looks like it might fit marketed for W220 and R230 (but I suspect that it only fits a W220).

I will look around a bit and post if I find something.

many of these head units that are application specific (for various Mercedes models) come with a canbus-box that retains most or all of the steering wheel controls. I have to assume there is a canbus-box solution out there that will do the same for your car (and allow you to use a popular universal head unit).

It's like 600 bucks though, I'd rather invest that in speakers and an amp..unless you know if one much cheaper.

It's not even worth it, get the Scoshe double din adapter and just say screw it and put an aftermarket headunit in.

Please see my review of the Joying headunit here.

For a lot less than $600 (under $400), this appears to be an OPTI-1 without NAVtv's "MOST HUR MB" sticker (if you look closely at its harness, you can see it has the correct part number "ASY012")
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-CL-...UAAOSwAvJXBnSD

Or you can buy a labeled version on Amazon for $430
https://www.amazon.com/NAV-TV-Head-R.../dp/B00OYFZDHC

seems like quite a bit of money, but the bottom line will be MUCH lower (in terms of saved labor and speaker/amp expense) and you may be able to retain features (this is a WAG, but if your car has the voice control option, some elements of it might still work ?)

IF YOU ACT FAST, there is an "amazon wherehouse deal" for $240 shipped (260 with tax) ... this is for a unit with damaged packaging, but presumably full warrantee
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...&condition=all

Chris
for anyone who feels like taking a chance (100 bucks, give or take), there are more than a few Chinese "opti-1 style" solutions ... here is an example

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FOB01-Optical-Fiber-Stereo-Decoder-Adapter-for-Mercedes-Benz-E-CL-CLS-S-SL-SLK-/232012222534?_trksid=p2385738.m2548.l4275

I would love to here about success stories with the chinese version(s) if anyone wants to add it after working with one.

Cheers,
Chris

Did you find a CANbus adapter that works with the Joying unit?

Here is one (with the fascia and antenna adapter as well) that may work with your combo

if someone with an 05+ wants to do the 03-04 android unit I would swap them my dash/console piece that goes around the radio and cup holders from my 03.

[QUOTE=latemodel21;6840169]you can buy that head-unit you linked directly from the manufacturer (hualingan) for nearly 200 less http://www.aliexpress.com/store/prod...761468093.html

I finished my interior /stereo build about 1 year ago. the problem i have been having from the start is the accessory battery is being drained when the car sits. even if i put it on a trickle charger it still gets drained. my mechanic tells me the radio is coming on by itself and is causing the battery to drain. I have emailed the Chinese company with no response. My question is has anyone with this unit had this problem? is there a solution? do i need to buy a new head unit? if yes, what name brand head units are recommended for a 03 SL55. I would like to do as little customization as possible hence the reason i bought this Chinese head unit in the first place. Any help is appreciated!

Thank you

on an 03 you can use any aftermarket head unit if you change out the factory amp to an aftermarket one & either cut or swap to an 05+ stereo surround & use a dash kit from metra

ok, the whole system has been swapped following you and AMGfan's builds. speakers, amp, wiring, crossovers and sub. Thanks for all the info btw. Also, do you have any input on the issue i am having with the above head unit?

I am assuming that you are using the NON Android version of he Haulingan radio that is in the link?
I have no first hand experience with that model, but I can try to shed some light on your problem.

To answer your question "My question is has anyone with this unit had this problem?" I have never heard of anyone having the problem you are describing .

If your unit is like other Haulingan units (and other similar Chinese radios), it included a canbus box which handles (among other things) the switching of the accessory power for your head unit. This allows your radio remain powered up after you turn off the key RIGHT UP UNTIL you open the door (to get out) THEN, power is cut. IF you do have a problem with the head unit staying powered up, my guess would be that either your installation did NOT include the canbus box AND/OR it was not wired properly. .... Does your head unit remain LIT? IS it possible that your AMP is on all the time and pulling power? I would consider measure the current draw on your consumer battery (ammeter in series with battery) while you disconnect the AMP and observe the effect.

hope that helps
Chris
