Simon's 2004 SL55 AMG build

so i just got my car back from the dealer this week after beginning my tuning program and was finally able to give her a proper shakedown today. drove about 150 miles combined highway and mountain roads and she handled it like a dream.

for this first part, they installed a Renntech airbox, SS headers, Crank Pulley and ECU tune. they also put in a color matched (black opal) SL63 decklid spoiler as well as smoke side markers and new grill.

on order i have a carbon fiber intake and engine cover from Eurocharged performance which should be here soon and will be installed asap. also on order is a full CF interior set from DCT Motorsports including trim pieces, shifter, steering wheel with paddle shifter conversion and CF paddles!

i have a set of 20" HRE 595Rs which i actually listed here but i think i'm just gonna keep em so they're going on this week.

also this week i'm going to remove the resonators and secondary cats. and place an order for the Evosport lightweight brake rotors and the Renntech rearview mirror with Valentine V1 built in and then i'm done... for now

sorry about the crappy pics but they were shot with my powershot after the test run. also why she's a bit dirty. i'll post better pics (using an slr and photoshop) and updates as they're installed

it's the baddest SL in PR according to all the guys at the dealership and they oughta know as they're the only one on the island!

ok, enough talk. what do you guys think... please be kind

Very nice

I think you have done the perfect mod on your car, although i would keep the 65 wheels and lower the car a touch with adjustable air.
The colour looks awsome, very nice car

Love that Black Opal. My dad used to have an E320 in Black Opal before he totaled it.

looks good do all black wheels with a color matched pin strip and color matched hardware on the wheels , that would look really good in my eyes.

finally got the mirror installed with the Valentine V1 as well as the M47 laser jammer which is the green LED above the Valentine V1. whole package is pricey, but as Ferris said, "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

brake rotors should be here in a week or so, engine cover and intakes are here awaiting installation, exhaust work and wheels delayed till next week and interior carbon parts should arrive in 2 weeks

more to come soon!

been thinking about it lately. need some help though. what options should i look at? how much harder will the ride be? this is critical as the roads here aren't so great. i don't want to bend a rim so easily. will i have full clearance for the size of my 20" HREs?

Renntech! my local MB dealer is Renntech certified. they send Renntech your mirror and they'll convert it in 2-3 days and send back to dealer for install. install took 1 day

I intalled a remote laser jammer system 3 years ago (Passport SRX) when it was 2k, but I am curious about yours. How much out the door And how many laser receiver/shifter heads are on the front, 2 or 3?

I'd always recommend a lowering module. And seeing all your mods a Renntech one should do the trick.

Simon...looks good! Please let me know if those cf intake tubes work for your sl55....last I researched these tubes (from the ones VRP/Carbonio made which looks like the exact pic you posted up) only fit the E55 and not our SL55 cars...unless they re-did the mold for SL55 since that time???

tried to mount them and you're correct. they're too short. i'll be keeping just the engine cover.

sorry about the delay guys (and gals)! been way too busy and had a bunch of delays but the build is back on track. got the OEM smoke 3rd brake light installed, changed the front grill to the mesh star i had originally ordered but received the disktronic star by mistake. never liked the disktronic look and it was driving me nuts! and finally got the CF engine cover installed. just wish someone made the intake tubes for the SL... PLEEEEAAAAASSSSEEEEE.

also, i got the rotors from evosport today. i will try hard to install them this weekend, if not then next week for sure along with the long overdue resonator delete

there's a slight change of plans for the wheels. i will be selling the HREs and buying a set of 20" Adv1 7.1 in matte silver. i want to give the car a slightly more sporty/track look.

lastly, i'm still waiting for the interior carbon sets, wheel, shifter from DCT. they're way overdue but i can hardly wait. should look crazy when installed. after that i think i'll be done for a bit.

my idea for the project was just to touch up the few details on the car i thought needed a little finishing touch but not to have it look like an over-tuned freak. kinda like a sleeper but with just 1 or 2 exterior hints this ain't a regular SL so watch out... under the hood is another story!

keep the feedback coming, i love it

Simon you are progressing along nicely! Please reserve a half day to clean your wheels though when they get dirty haha lol! polished alum mesh is hard to keep clean for sure.
