Issue with Horn Sounding
My horn will honk intermittently when i turn the steering wheel. It never happens when I am driving straight. Has anyone ever experienced this issue?

Sounds like either something is loose or shorted in your steering wheel.
I something similar happen when driving my SL500 hard one evening. It took a turn quite hard, felt the tires slip, corrected the steering and then my stereo went really loud. Turns out my right hand was a little too far left and was pressing the "+" volume button on the steering wheel.

I'm having the same problem on my 2004 55 .. mostly when turning the wheel.. but also if I slam the bonnet down the horn goes off and stays on until I pull the horn pad back.. To drive I managed to jam some plastic pegs between the pad and steering wheel.
Its with the dealer now who's talking about replacing something but quoting around $1000 so not sure if that's a whole new steering wheel.
How did you fix yours?

Mine is off and on, and I havent had it looked at yet. I dont drive my SL everyday, so it hasnt drove me nuts yet. I hear its probably electrical, and would be around the $1000 mark.

Same thing just happened to my '04 SL. Mechanic said the right corner spring for the horn is broken and I need to replace the whole horn center unit (air bag also) that is on the steering wheel. He is able to find an after market unit and quoted $1,500 for replacement. Any comments?

Mercedes offers a repair kit (4 springs and bushings) that is an update for R230 and 209 CLK air bags. I had to use one after installing a CLK Black Series steering wheel on my 2004 SL55 to stop the horn from intermittently sounding off. I believe you have to look it up on the Mercedes EPC for a CLK. I will try to find the part number and post it.
