SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Coil over conversion. Anyone making it?
#76
@0-60 Motorsports. The SL BS has a hydraulic suspension but Not ABC, the hydraulic suspension of the SL BS, is KW Hydraulics, the cost of the front set as I have checked is 8500$. Preferably we try to send KW emails so they get convinced to make a conversion kit for the SL55, Coilovers and not hydraulics. Hopefully.

@DaveArt, you should make sure it will be able to handle the torque of the SL55.
This only can be an after market project but no one did a specific kit for the SL55, they all did it for the E55.

Guy is in Florida, is an ex Mercedes tech and I believe conversion is based on the European SL350 and uses parts from that vehicle (sway bars, etc.). This is the site :
http://www.rebuildmastertech.com/
P.S. Had an email reply from "Rebuild Master Tech" and it appears you only need a Mercedes scanner to remove the ABC option out of the car's computer, following installation.
My ABC is still fine, but I know it is only time, so I want to be prepared.
Please let us know if anyone tries this conversion.......Geo.

There also another alternative I mentionned somewhere. I also found a suspensions specialist (www.suspension-sport.com) here in France that offered me a coilover conversion for my SL55.
I did not choose that option but left my car for a rebuilt of my original ABC struts.
The set includes 4 adjustable suspensions and the electronic that tricks the ECU to beleive ABC are still in operation.

... and you give away your original ABC struts which I don't like so much in case I want to resell the car.

By the way, can't get link above to work. Could the site be down?.......Geo.

You could keep your original struts, but it would cost you an extra $1,500. If one or two struts are bad, you will not want them anyway and leaving them in storage until you sell your car, may allow dirt, etc. to migrate into the units.

Sorry, spelling mistake, site is http://www.suspensions-sport.com/
Its been 7 weeks and no parts have been received by us and they are refusing to refund the money even though we got our bank involved. They also wanted 1.5k more and we refused.
DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY BUSINESS! You will get ripped off.

So it was you !
When I went to see the car 3 weeks ago, he told me about what happened with you.
Somebody in his team did a misstake with the cost estimate, that's clear and he was deeply sorry about that. He said they gave you the price for 1 strut as the price for the whole. I don't know anything about the discussion that you had with him afterward so can't judge about that.
But, from what he told me, you did ask him to make racing suspensions for your SL. You gave him your specs and we're talking about high end suspensions and not at all standard coilover conversion.
You seem to me like you know a lot about cars and mods, so did you really beleive you could get 4 racing suspensions for 1'500€ !?
What is for sure is that he is not fast. My car is there since 4 weeks and I'm not supposed to get it before next week ... let's see. I'll tell you if I get screwed as well or not !

We were promised delivery in 2 weeks! I have all of this in my emails by the way. In the end nothing was delivered and every week when i ask they are like oh its almost ready and we'll send it over this week. Its been 1.5 months now. You do the math.
I'll have to get the lawyers involved in this as as far as I think he hasnt done anything and refused to return our money.

Ok. I shared the address I found and went there myself. The guy seems like an honest person, but I don't know him more than that.
At least I trusted him enough to give him my car and it's been there for 4 weeks instead of 1 week originally.
Keep us posted on the development and tell me if you need local assistance, I don't mind hellping if I can. Maybe it's just missunderstanding ...

If he promised you to get the work done in 1 week and your cars been there for 3 why are you still waiting for him and putting up with this delay?

Thanks for the offer. I might have to take you up on it. He Says he is not dishonest and gave me another "WE WILL SHIP NEXT WEEK". Another NExt week....

Seriously, I'm a nice guy and I have a few other cars to enjoy while that one is not running. So no need to stress, that's just a car.
I'm also grateful that I found an expert that can recondition my struts for 800€ compared to the 3'200$ Arnott is asking or the 8k€ for brand new Merc ABC.
So, if that's only a matter of time, that's ok, I can wait, as long as the work is done correctly.
I can also be more relax since the guy is located 30 minutes from my place, so I can go there and see by myself anytime.

Suspension Sport agreed to send out the coilover system last week and when i sent them an email asking as to what is the update on the shipment there was no reply. Now this week is almost over and it has been more than 2 months almost since i made payment and placed the order. I will be moving forward with our lawyer in France as this is as insulting as it is embarrasing.
DO NOT PURCHASE FROM SUSPENSION SPORT. YOU WILL FACE THE SAME PROBLEMS.

At our Irvine Cars & Coffee today, I met these TKO guys, and they have a real impressive coil hydrolic system, raises about 6". May get it done on my front of my red Pantera, and can do on the SL too. Website here: http://www.tkomotorsports.com/cars-boats/Product-Videos
Expensive but very impressive.
