SL 65 AMG, Porsche 911 (993), 2014 Cayenne GTS, 2013 Toyota Highlander Limited
good tires
Continental DWs........better than PS2s and Bridgestone 050A that I had on my SL 65 AMG........more traction, quieter, better wear......NO tire squirm on acceleration......

So here is my two cents worth. If you are looking for traction to handle big torque and willing to compromise all else, then I say Toyo Proxes. I have been running them for about four summer seasons now. When the pavement is hot, I think they out stick anything else. Yes they are noisy at freeway speeds, yes they have poor tread life compared to others, yes they don't corner as well as others, but when the pavement is hot and the tires temp is in Toyos sweet spot, they stick.
My mod list is 180 pulley, shorty headers, RT HE and pump, 80mm TB, EC dyno tune and a few other minor mods like phenolic spacers and secondary delete. I think Toyos handle the torque best. A number of high HP 55k guys (E55 guys mostly) run drag radials at all times like Nitto 555 and MTs. You might consider that as well.

I would not suggest running the Michelin PS2's in the 305 rear configuration. I struggled with them on 19" wheels for almost a year and replaced them with Toyo's that are great. Search "Michelin PS2 rear waggle" and you will see all the posts.
Nice wheels! Good luck!

This is two years old - I am facing a similar issue. My questions is tyre (whoops - TIRE) size - not wheel size. I also do not want to know which brand of tire please (don't ask why - just trust me on this).
I have the SL63 19 inch wheels. The tyres on my car are 255/35R19 (fronts) and 285/30R19 (rear).
What i would IDEALLY like to do is go up one size in width. To go to 265/35R19 (front) and 295/30R19 (rears). The two US tire size comparison (miata and 1010tires) both indicate the speed difference is acceptable - and I understand the width of the wheels I have can handle the increased width.
The big question I need - will these two widths - HAS ANYONE HAD ANY ISSUES PLEASE (for example - front suspension as well as front and rear guards).
THANKS IN ADVANCE. The cost of these tyres in OZ is $3,000 (you guys have it lucky in US of A).

I ran 295s on the rear when my car was stock height with no problem whatsoever. After installing an ELM, I noticed the rear fender edge was shaving off a very small strip of rubber. I had a tire guy look at it and he was not concerned. Once the small strip was removed, I had no more issues. When I put a new set of tires on, I went back to 285s. The 295s made the car look great, but I did not like having rubber removed no matter how small.

Choice of tyres
My SL55 now has the DUNLOP SPORT MAXX front 265 and rear 295. There has been no touching anything - no signs of any impact.
Yes they look great - but its the handling and grip that are an enormous improvement. 305 - WOW - might have been even better! That said - on the rim wide I have - the tyre manufacturer did not recommend.
GOOD LUCK!
