2013 SL 65 AMG

I looked around and found nothing related to this, so thought i'd post it.

I was just looking at autoblog and saw a post on the 2013 SL AMG!

I thought the 65 AMG would be over but apparently not!

Sweet power too!

Enjoy!

they're ditching the 5 speed for the 7.. I suppose it'll be significantly faster with the weight reduction and closer gear ratios

0-60 in 3.9 sec! From watching the last season of Top Gear UK, I thought for sure Merc would be dropping the V12 AMGs. Richard said the fuel economy is so terrible that Merc would drop all their V12s, guess not!

Price is €236,334, that would be over $300,000. At that price the car is pointless. Even at $200,000 it competes with the SLS Roadster.

Yeah but you cant directly convert the price like that. Merc has different pricing for the US market. I could only see it being around the same price as the old one.

2005 C55 AMG - 2018 340i - 2006 SL55 AMG - Sold
Glad to see Mercedes keeping the twin turbo V12. The engine is just a monster.

Power looks to be basically the same as the R230 SL65 which makes me happy. That means a stock R230 SL65 or chipped R230 SL600 should still keep up.

The biggest change has to be the weight reduction and 7 speed gearbox. I can't imagine my car with 250 pounds less weight and a 7 speed transmission. I think the heavy weight and old school 5 speed gear box are the biggest drawbacks to the R230 V12 cars. I'm stoked they found a way to get a 7 speed transmission to work.

The thing is, I bet with software the twin turbo V8 powered SL63 will make SL65 power. That may mean the the informed buyer decides to buy a V8 SL63 and get software rather then buy an SL65.

The actual weight saving vs old SL65 is almost 350lbs.
More ratios, quicker tranny and lower weight should do wonders for performance.
As far as tuning, you're right,Renntech already boosts 63TT to 667hp.
But then,SL65 can also be tuned, over 700hp easy....

Just out of curiosity, why would anyone need 600+ hp. I mean what are you going to do with it?

Take a $200K car to the drag strip??

There is no such thing as "To much power".
Also, just to let you know,a lot of guys here who purchase these 600+ hp cars, spend a lot of $$ to get even more....

2007 SL55 AMG
nice lines

I really like the lines, the only problem is that porsche-esk type dovetail across the truck lid. I like a smother look. Ya, thats it, i like ours better.

Too much power, like too much fun, not a wall i have often hit.

Nice response Shark, just stating my opinion that it makes no sense to me. I guess I struck a nerve. No need for name calling.
