Question Are Phenolic spacers worth it, & is race gas worth it & where to buy it?

I've been hearing that phenolic spacers give no measurable benefits to the SL 55 engine, is this true or what do you guys think?

Also, I was thinking of ordering 5 gallon drums of race gas, will it give me more power? Will my SL 55's engine and/or ECU automatically detect and compensate for this? And if so, where is the best place online to buy it? I've already bought three 32 oz. bottles of torco accelerator race gas from amazon.com just to see how it feels.....it says to add atleast two bottles to every 10 gallons of gas.....how many gallons does the SL 55 tank hold? if there is 20 gallons, I'm assuming then I'll need 4 bottles, which is 128 ounces, about a gallon of race gas for every 20 gallons of normal 93 octane fuel.....it says on the bottle that this should then bring my car's octane up to 105.......how much more HP and torque will that get me usually?

Thanks guys for all your information and help!

As far as gas or octane boosters go, it probably depends on what mods you have & how much boost you are making. The idea is to avoid pinging

Question Ok cool....

Ok cool...
I've already bought the Eurocharged ECU, TCU, and 172 pulley upgrade...after my car gets out of the shop fixing some other stuff I'll do the eurocharged stuff...also I'll probably get the eurocharged heat exchanger and spark plugs in a few weeks too....and I've already bought the Johnson intercooler pump.....

I need to know exactly which kind of race gas to buy, and if so , what gains can I expect...and where to buy it...and also which ones to avoid or which ones could damage my car......

I'd still love to know more info about whether or not the phenolic spacers are a good idea and why/why not too.....

Thanks again!

To get the full benefit of race gas you need to be tuned for it. The fuel and timing need to be adjusted accordingly. Tuned for high octane unleaded race fuel can add 15/20hp. I believe 101 from VP may be the highest rating in unleaded.

Evosport's website states that their phenolic intake manifold spacers help reduce intake temperatures on the 55K by as much as 100 deg. F. Now how much of that translates to an increase in performance, that I do not know, but I would imagine the more mods one has the more beneficial these become.

Yeah, the evosport phenolic spacers are the only ones I've seen for sale so far for the sl 55...I need to call them I guess for more info......I only know what I've heard.....with the few performance mods im getting done to my sl 55, then maybe it could be beneficial? In a few weeks, besides the ecu/tcu/pulley, im just trying to think ahead to what the next best few additional steps should be? Maybe eurocharged heat exchanger and spark plugs, phenolic spacers, eurocharged fuel injectors, and quaife lsd? Then later down the road maybe the eurocharged fuel rails or headers or throttle body? I have a few months to decide on all that.......and as far as race gas.....u say this vp 101 race gas is the best for my car? Can I just call vp directly to order? Or should I buy large quantities of torco accelerator and just add to each tank? If I get my ecu done to compensate for race gas, does that mean that after that I can only run race gas, or will normal 93 octane fuel make the car not run correctly? Thanks again for all the info guys, I sincerely appreciate it!

You can pick up the OBD tune module that holds multiple tunes. ECU, pulley, headers. Injectors depend on how big you go with the pulley. Get a race gas and a pump gas tune and your good to go.

How do I decide what length and size for the injectors?

I have bought this small supercharge pulley from Eurochargde - I waslooking for new Bosch EV14 52lb/550cc injectors 48 mm. - should be top-of-the-line?

I hope you meant 10 degrees f. 100 degrees drop requires a freon- based cooling and even then it is doubtful.

/\ I was thinking the same thing.

Like someone else said, you will not see the benefits of using race gas unless you tune for it. Personally, if i was going to run some sort of other fuel, i would run E85 if it is available in your area. On my "race" car, we saw more benefits from E85 then we did with leaded race gas. Those little cans of octane boosters are a waste of money, and don't put leaded race gas in your car if you're still running cats and normal o2 sensors.

Good luck.

Those would work, I bought mine from TTM, combined with fuel rail. Yes it may be pricey, but I trust Bruce and his cars never disappoint. I think you will be very happy with the smaller supercharger pulley, I added it to my combo and made 20hp and almost 40ft of torque. Pretty impressive when you take into consideration I was already running a 168 crank pulley.

E85 will chew through the whole fuel system- anything stock rubber will go bad fairly quickly.
