charge cooler temp
Can someone put this to rest, Benz-o-rama you should know. What temp
should your charge coolers get after hard driving. I have been assured they
should get only warm to touch, 70 degrees Does the charge cooler have a
seperate system from the cars. My car is going fantastic but the charge
coolers get very hot up to just under 100 degrees. Can anyone help.

on the s600?
it is a separate closed coolant circuit.
if you idle a lot they will get heat soaked to the point where you cannot put your hand on them. this is normal.
the easiest way to find out if your he pump and circuit are in good shape is to do two things:
1. when cold open the coolant cap in the back center of the engine (between the intercoolers) and make sure coolant can be seen. close cap.
2. drive car for a bit (some h/e pumps will be always on, some will kick in only after temps go up. have yet to figure out why). next to the coolers there are two shreader valves. one for each intercooler. with the engine running remove the plastic cap and momentarily push the valve needle with some sharp tool. does coolant shoot out? it should. try the other one too.
if coolant does not come out hard (or just dribbles) you either have an air pocket or the pump is gone.

Thanks very much alx. I will try these things. Even if it nothing to do with the
pump , is it worth changing, I was thinking of changing to a Johnson CM30.

Well alx I have tried your suggestions and they seem ok. How do you bleed it,
are the valves for pumping air in or sucking air out.
cheers.

Absolutely incredible, my 600 was fitted with a Johnson CM30 ic pump, with
the extra 100 bhp it's scarey fast, in fact one of the fastest cars I have ever driven. Without doubt faster than my CL65, a SL600 with this conversion is
going to be awesome.
One problem, it gets every where so quickly, the brakes and road holding
can hardly keep up.
