SL63 Oil Consumption
I have to admit that I have never much paid attention to the NA 63 engine as I prefer forced induction. That said I never experienced that kind of oil usage in the US, including the v12TT. Pushed hard, I had to add a quart every 5k miles or so.
Btw, am getting a similar tire setup as yours even though everyone is concerned about a staggered setup for snows. But I am tired of getting the rear rims beaten up with skinny 255 tires on it. Not car wash friendly...

My 2012 CLS63 varied greatly in its oil consumption (BiTurbo) according to use.

SL's are great in the snow. With 4-5 months snow on the ground where we live (MN, currently a balmy -5 Fahrenheit or -25 Celsius without windchill) I got tired of having a car permanently in the garage, so I threw some snow tires on it and can enjoy it all year around. To me, cars are there to be driven.
Besides, even without snow the Michelin Super Sports are terrible when cold; no grip.

I'm with you on this one. My SL gets put to bed in November and doesn't get a chance to run again until April. I could not imagine driving a wide tire, low to the ground car that puts 540 torque to the wheels (few mods) in ice and snow and have any fun at all. Snow tires on an SL is not for me.

I visit MN a couple of times a year but only in the spring or summer. The stories about winter I hear up by Seven Clans.......
cars fine in the snow as I use it.
Renntech button to raise the height.
Pirelli scottozero snow tires.
limited slip.
snow setting (2nd gear start).
200 lbs of ballast in trunk (sand or rocks).

Wiah I had the ball$ to drive mine year round. My car has limited traction on a bright warm sunny day..I can't imagine driving around on rock hard pizza cutters on a subfeezing day. My car has been hibernating for a month or two already and I miss driving it, but I'll wait for Spring. The OTHER issue is: while you might feel safe with your snow tires and trunk weight, some idiot, without snow tires and weight, has a better chance of sliding into you if you have you beautiful car out. I know mine won't get hit in my garage...

Performance tires (summer tires) should not be driven below 45°f.
Pirelli posted a whole page online dedicated to 45°f.

Sticky snow tires wear out very quickly, 2 maybe 3 seasons tops (3 months per season). Sticky snow tires wear out just like D/R.
A very good article by Maserati America explains it this way:
"Tire Rack has very kindly supplied video that clearly demonstrates the vast performance difference experienced in real-world winter driving between a GranTurismo S fitted with original equipment Pirelli P Zero summer performance tires, and one fitted with Pirellis Sottozero performance winter tire.
From a standing start on snow-covered pavement the car equipped with winter tires covered 200 ft in 11 seconds, while the GranTurismo with summer tires took a painful 28 seconds.
More jaw-dropping was the difference in stopping distance on the snow-covered surface: a panic stop in 35 feet on winter tires versus 95 feet on summer tires."

As far as someone slamming into my car, perfect excuse to go car shopping.

V12-Biturbo
I'm guilty of lusting over high HP/TQ German sleds too but..
All this Throg's missing is pix of Turbotom & his Carncubine (replace -ar- with -o- if you don't get my pun) in a carriage ride covered in blanket swooning thru Central Park
