Hi Guys,
On this topic of the LSD, I bought my second SL55, a '08 in great condition very low miles.
It definitely does need an LSD.
When I was at the AMG challenge talking to the AMG product manager, they said the LSD "clunks" and I wouldn't like it. Since many of you have had this option, any commentary on this?
I have also considered the Qualife which many say is better than the AMG version. Any thoughts on that would also be greatly appreciated.

I had an aftermarket one and had it adjusted from 100% to 50% lock which made it more livable.
Also, I added a few ounces of friction modifier and that cut the clanking noise quite a bit. I got it from a Ford dealership.

I guess they all clunk. Biggest downfall is a potential buyer might think the clunking is a mechanical problem.
Maybe you'd be wise to attend a car race and watch the cars being pushed around by the crews. You might decide against it when you hear the noise they make when turning.

jeffreyy,
There is a drag strip on Kauai - out on the west end of the island, past Kekaha. Went there last year for one of their Sunday events (September, I believe). Good turnout, probably a hundred or more cars.
A fellow I met there and chatted with about their events indicated several of the other islands had a strip as well. Once a year, there is an inter-island drag race (with some 'local island fun' competition/rivalry, I'm sure!). Here's the link for the Kauai club: http://dragrace-kauai.com/

Hi all, I originally posted a few months ago that I was contemplating selling my SL55 with Designo and 030 options. Well, its now a few months later and I am definitely selling so if anyone is interested please pm me. As Mark says above its a unique and superb car - feels almost new and certainly looks it! Only done 21700 miles and really is in fantastic condition. I'm in DC so if anyone is interested.......

I came close to pulling the trigger on this car before the PO sold it to the MB dealer and moved back to OZ. He would have sold it to me for 45k with a brand new 3 yr 36k warranty. Instead this dealership gave him 39k and he got about 5k back on the warranty. Plus keep in mind it is a Designo AND 030 car with only 27k miles AND a very rare color combo so it isn't exactly your run of the mill car.

I was tempted to buy it back myself. I love the color and the Designo option.

I had passed on the car in the original post and have gone through two 220 body S class cars since (S55 and S600). I was close to doing this one when my eldest son showed me the colleges he want to attend and I looked at tuition. I am pretty sure I will regret not having bought your old car in a few years.

Factory LSD works off clutches and needs limited slip additive. Qualife does not as it is a torsen style diff that works off of gears instead of clutches. Google Auburn vs Torsen diff to see the differences
