SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Advice for buying an R230 SL55 or SL65
#26
That's a really interesting suggestion. I've done coilovers on several different cars before. Who makes a set for the non AMG r230? Is there a method to disable the ABC electronics so as to not have dash lights/codes? Thanks again for the suggesiton.

If there was someone making a kit, idk why they never posted on here, there was companies that tried and failed cause of all the electronic issues. But until I see it with my own eyes I call BS

Strutmaster was selling a coil over kit for the R230 SL500's. I don't know if they still do or not.
I have 105,000 miles on my SL55 with all original ABC components. At 100,000 miles I rebuilt both front and rear valve blocks and replaced all the accumulators as preventive maintenance. I flush my ABC fluid every 20,000 miles. I'm sure it helps I live in the SouthWest (Las Vegas) where the roads are for the most part smooth as glass. I would not own this car if I still lived in the NorthEast the roads would destroy it.
I do all my own work on my car. I don't find the R230 or the ABC system to be any more difficult to work on than any other modern car. If you look around online you can get parts much, much, cheaper than the local dealer.
Unless you can get a good warranty or can do some/most of your own work I can see the R230 being a very expensive car to maintain.

He said he did already several of them and never had any problem with the electronic wich gets neutralized (don't ask me how).
I did consider that option for a moment but finally decided to go for a rebuilt of the original struts.
