My ashtray only opens halfway. It will close like normal, but won't open more than an inch. It feels like it is hitting somethin solid when I open it. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Do you use the ash tray to store coins....
You may have a coin stuck behind the door.

Just got the car. I have used a wire to check behind it, but nothing there. Anybody take one apart?

probibly something stuck behind it. You may have to take the console out to figure it out

I had this same trouble , you will need to remove top of console and turn over. mine had a coin in it.

Had the same thing happen to me. No more coins stored in the ash tray

It happened to my car before five years ago. It turned out the dime was stuck behind underneath. After removed it, it opened normal all the way up.

I had the same problem, stored some coins in the ashtray, had to pay Mercedes $250 to disassemble the console and fix it. They also mentioned "no coins in the ashtray" so it must be a common problem.

I always found the best place to put coins is the covered storage/arm rest between the seats.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement ashtray cover in carbon fiber? Mine is cracked, and I'd love to get it replaced.

Mine too is cracked. How it happened, I don't know. I've been looking for a replacement as well. I even thought about attempting to fix it by removing it, flex the crack open, fill it with a clear super glue type then polish the top. Mine is the OEM carbon. How would a "wrapped carbon" compare next to carbon?

I to would love to see a picture of OEM and the stuff people wrap. As I would like to add carbon fiber trim to my car.
If someone gets there ashtray repaired , they could do a before and after picture.

you would essentially figure out if its 1x1 or 2x2, and follow the weave of the original part. matching it exactly
