Beautiful Jon, but agreed, those wheels are far too busy/loud & take away from he otherwise elegant masterpiece you've created.. (tho wheels are highly personal choices, if you dig em? then enjoy my friend)
Edit:What reactions/comments do you get from MB Dealerships, esp on that interior that rivals any Bentley?? Any news on tt custom 1000 hp build?

Every time I see that car I am sick to my stomach! I feel like a wannabe in mine. It is the most beautiful SL I have ever seen. So much class and I even love the wheels! You must be a perfectionist.

Mercedes SL65 AMG Widebody build
I love your car and have admired it for a while. I am doing a widebody build on my 2006 as well over this winter and am stuck on one item. I am looking for a wiring harness to make the updated 2010 headlights compatible with my 2006 car. If you have a contact who can get these or know how to obtain them, I would greatly appreciate the help! Thanks for your time.

First of all, it's beautiful...great job on conversion.
Second...widebodymerc. the headlight conversion is very easy. All you need is a schematic sheet and 2 small grey "plugs" that cost $5 each. You get them from a MB dealer. Very easy. Nothing else needed, pm for details

Thx guys...yes the wheels are a personal taste thing...I love them personally and in person they are pretty dramatic. Our thinking was since it is a wide body that it needed a presence to fill in the wheel well. Plus everyone seemed to be gravitating to the 5 spoke or double spoke 5 configuration. I wanted something that wasnt as common.

SL65 Rockford...I contacted the dealer for schematics and conversion info and they had nothing?! I got some plugs for conversion and I will get it to work, but was hoping for a better plug and play harness that would take less trial and error to get there.

I have to say that this is the most complete and best quality SL65 AMG build I have ever seen. This is a Prior Design kit, right? My kit is a newer one that is a little more aggressive one made by Bomex Aero out of Japan...should be pretty sweet when it's done. The first 3 pictures are my pre-widebody car and the next 2 are what the car will look like with the kit on...but it will be black. The last one is with the early hood fitment of the new body kit.

Have you seen the SPDv6 kit? In my opinion, it's the best looking kit out there. With that said, AMGfan's is the nicest and best looking SL I've ever seen.

That kit is nice, but still pretty conservative. My rear wheels are 14 inches wide and carry 345's.

A couple of things on these wide body builds...
1. Not only do you need a good paint guy...make sure they have a good body guy. From experience from 10 builds...most of these kits aren't plug and play AND will need additional fitment and finish work. A lot of labor hours to get it looking right.
2. You will need to modify the wheel well covers for the increased rear width.
3. Exhaust tips aren't a simple thing...we thought the dual exhaust look was just too dated so we went with angular exhaust AMG tips but the openings weren't meant for those tips so a good amount of fabrication was done to get it looking tight and as oem looking as possible.
4. Have a lot of patience...real life isn't Overhauling...getting the look right takes time and some $$$...

Yeah, love the pedals! They are sweet! Duly noted on the widebody build AMG Fan! I can see I will need to take some deep breaths. I have a guy doing it that has done quite a few widebody kits and even doe his own custom fiberglass fabrication, so we will hopefully be ok. I already have an aftermarket remote flapper dual exhaust from Wheels and More from Germany and I'm sure we will have to do some tinkering to get everything to, as you say, "look OEM as possible." It's the electrical thing that is a little tricky now with the headlamps, but we can get it figured out, it just may take some trial and error. It would be nice to find a source for a harness that is ready to go though, but no one seems to know where to get one. I enclosed 2 pictures of the exhaust for the forums critique. It is just Cat back exhaust, but it really sounds nice and gives a nice rumble from the V12.

We basically gutted the muffler so it's just a shell with a pipe going through it to tail pipes...it has a very nice low rumble. Luckily in my case the wrench at C2Design is a technical wiz and made his own harness.

MB won't give them to you, you need to give them a vin number from a 2009+ r230 and they will supply the adapter plugs. Read the thread for more details..nothing else is needed. A good mechanic get them up In less than 30 mins each. Shardul helped me by getting them as I am in Houston now.

AMGfan, question for you; I have looked at many places and I have been trying to find the same rear spoiler as you have. All the mfg of BS body kits seem to be selling what I currently have. A nice but mild spoiler, I want the raised look of a real BS spoiler in the raised position. Any advice for more, prior design and other all sell the similar flat flushed version, which i have already. Any advice? And also, does it obstruct the view for you at all, as it's stationary versus the raising and lowering module which allows view while reversing? Any issue with extra weight when using vario?

Rockford...the rear spoiler was an FRP piece straight from the Prior Design kit. We converted it to CF with special base support "ports" for the pillar poles. Fabricated insertion bracing was made underneath the rear deck. We wanted to make sure it wasn't going anywhere and looked like it was special Designo request (i.e. MB quality). The pillars themselves are CNC pieces that are pretty intricate with regard to base angles since the rear deck isn't really flat. As far as visibility...no problems whatsoever...as far as weight...not bad and considering the SL65 torque (and the extra torque after the tune)...it really doesn't really become a factor.
