Which is best

I may look for another black 65, but is it best to buy newer high mileage
or older low mileage cars.
I think dealers generally go on age, but I do like low mileage cars.
Of course with warranty if possible.

Depends on your definition of 'best'. If it means worry free then one with a warranty might be a primary decision point. You may experience issues regardless of new v old or high v low mileage. The new v old decision may be more a preference on body style or features rather than a prediction of reliability. Low mileage may be more of a resale value consideration than a buying factor.

Having said that, I prefer low mileage CPO vehicles when they can be found

Thanks, I appreciate that warranty is the best.
I guess what I mean is reliability, some of the problems I have
is probably due to lack of use, and it's only got 30K on the clock.
Every time I buy new, it's great having 3 years problem free, but what
it is worth after 3 years is dreadful.
I would like to know how many members bought used newish cars and
others who bought older lowish mile cars to see who had the most problems.
Would be nice to have a chart with all the figures on, might even help members to choose a vehicle.

The older models are practically being given away. They are an absolute bargain as far as I'm concerned. Buy one of those and put some cash into a rainy day fund. That's my 1p's worth.

SL 55 and a GT 3000 vr4 Here's my car: http://home.online.no/~ludvs/index.cfm
I would also agree that it's best to buy an older car with fewer mileage, than a newer with many miles on the clock, IF you don't use it as a daily driver.

But if you use it as a daily driver, the running cost's would be much higher, so then a newer one with a warranty would of course be best since it is difficult to get a warranty for these older fine looking cars.

As long as you do your maintenance, the older cars have been "cured" of the youth problems, since the earlier "problems" have been rectified, so like mine that has 28' miles, has been quite bulletproof.

Good luck with your choice, sound 8, mine is in storage now in an old barn from 1950, where it's cosy and nice with a thick blanket on top to keep her warm and dry.

I personally like to buy cars that are just outside their warranty/lease period. Around 3-4 years old and 50k miles or so. Most of the time by this amount of mileage and time most of the oddball warranty items have been taken care of, you have experience to know if there are major faults in the design of the car, and a large amount of depreciation has already occurred. And because of lease returns, there's a good selection.

I agree with rune and viper, I would like to put my car away for the winter,
trouble is my garage is full of junk. As for a new car, buying one just after
3 years seems logical. Why does every one say the SL65 is a classic and will
grow in value, at the moment their taking a bashing price wise..

The SL65 will be a classic, but not in a traditional sense. There will be a special group of people who will cherish them. And no they will not increase in value.

My SL65 has been one of the best cars I have owned. Depreciates quickly like a Boat. But I bought it for the fun and it is just that.
Great to achieve "Felony Speed" in 3.6 sec. !! - Spank new '14 Corvettes- ( new Z06 may be a different story.)
