What the hell is going on with my trunk

Hi guys, picked up this sl55 4 days ago and yesterday my top got stuck halfway. Figuring it was the flaps i ordered the new guides for the cable gear. Did the manual close procedure for the roof and cannot close the front part of my trunk closest to the c pillar. Its latched by the rear bumper but i cannot get it to close and do not want to force it. How can i close this thing before i lose my mind. Heres a pic of how it is situated currently.

The trunk latches are all electric. If the car believes the timing sequence for top operation is off it may not allow the rear trunk latch to actuate (as a safety feature) and thus you may not be able to close the trunk manually.

If you don't have SDS your best bet is to put the top up manually.

Do a Google search for "manually close vario roof" and you will find the .pdf procedure in the first few results. The one I found was posted on "another" MB forum.

Also, see this thread it *may* help you out:

Hope this helps,

B

Yea i followed that original procedure for the manual close. Assuming it is an electrical issue with the tops timing, there is no current way i can get this closed without a SDS correct?

Yeah, I had this problem on my '04 600 and a version of it, but not as bad, on my '09 63 AMG. If I remember correctly, it was the flaps and something with the hydraulics.

I wish I could tell you. I suspect the module that controls top operation is not seeing input from the microswitches that monitor the flaps (as they are broken) and are not allowing any operation of the roof/trunk at this point.

Did you follow the part of the procedure where you jump the connector in the truck to close the rear hatch? That seems to be the part that allows the trunk to latch closed. I bet this is required as it manually bypasses module control of the trunk latch.

You mentioned you have the cables on order. Best thing at this point is probably to wait for those to show up, repair the rear flaps, then you should have operation of your top back in order. I'd be a *little* surprised if you need SDS to get things back in order once the flaps are repaired. I bet the module will see that all is well again and the top will operate as normal. I've heard of top flaps causing the roof to stop working but I've never heard of anyone needing a SDS after repairing the flaps to get the roof working again.

Also, if you are familiar with SDS and find you need it I have SDS and a multiplexer. I'm in The Lakes, just south of Summerlin. You're welcome to come by and use it. I've never used it on a car before I bought it when I bought my SL55 but haven't needed it yet. If you or someone you know are familiar with SDS and want to give it a try you're welcome to swing by.

This happened to me once when I had the rood wrapped whilst leaving it open & closing for the work to be done.

IIRC, I just played/assisted the flaps until it all worked again. Has been working ever since.

Hope this helps.
