SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: R230 Adjustable Coilover Kit : It's Finally Happening!

I think it is our fault ( the customer ) as we in the aftermarket are always pushing for the best deal and shopping around.
By the time rent, insurance and employees have been paid the margins are too small unless you are in the very top of the tuning market which has much bigger margins.

This product is a different thing, in much the same way that drag slicks on 16s are a different thing than racing slicks on 18s meant for cornering. Comparing the two doesn't really do either one justice.

I think it's the second post where Speedriven says"you've got a pm". I'm thinking maybe they worked out a deal and SD raised the price for a cut in. Just speculating since the original guy had since disappeared. All I can say is tuna.

Quick Update
Quick Update.
Just got my SL600 back from Mayco Performance in Houston who installed and aligned Version 2.0 of the RMT kit. This version using a different Merc control arm and uses a different shock and spring combo. All clearance issues resolved and no bottoming out on the 70 mile drive I did from Houston to the Woodlands. I even went over some huge speed bumps that would have scraped the living SH%&T out of Ver 1.0.
Didn't do any high speed passes because it is raining cats and dogs here, I did take sharp corner at 30 mph or so and the nose dived too much for my liking. However, this is the most solid the car as felt since I purchased it a year ago with a failing ABC. I gave Ver 1.0 a C-. A this point I give RMT a solid B- instead of B, because the great difficulty in adjusting the height. For normal driving with an occasional high speed pull I think it is fine. I would not want to tangle with anything on a twisting road based on what I felt the first couple hours tonight.
The install costs $1100, because for some reason known only to Jeff, the only why to adjust the height on the coilover is to completely remove the strut, compress the spring and adjust the collar. Mayco did at least 4 removals and installs to get it right. Huge design flaw.
If VVX can still come through with a design that works, I would like to test them head to head. Also, if there is a Sl65/600 owner in Houston who would like to compare the ABC to coilover I would be up for that test.

Hey All!
Just stopping back in to see the discussions - the VVK guys have sold quite a few kits already so I'm amazed there haven't been any reviews yet (at least that I've seen), I guess people are too busy enjoying their ride!
Just to reiterate, VVK kits come with sways, brackets, coilovers, pump, everything right on vvk-usa.com. For the price (4,000) and the quality (made in USA) - you can't compete.
Sean at SLR is one of the engineers at VVK and he has taken a role in helping customers. His number is 561-542-2810 and can answer your questions anytime!

Hi all.
Long time SL55 owner and lurker on this forum and like many of you I'm at the fork in the road to repair ABC or go in this direction with coilovers. I must admit the reviews on the overall conversion haven't been too promising.
Socko, do you have any updates on your order with this kit?
gwelliott, now that the rain has subsided in our neck of the woods do you have any more impressions on the RMT kit?
Thanks in advance.

So I just ordered my coilover kit today, The sport set up with shipping was about 4,500. Sean said they sold out and will take another 2-3 weeks to get more kits ready to ship.
Hopefully this will answer all the questions for people with V12s if this kit is legit or not. Sean said there was alot of people waiting for the new kits and if I wanted to be one of the first people to get the new set up I should pay now.
I really didn't feel comfortable doing that but hey at least I have a month before I can do a charge back or not if it's not shipped out by then

So far, 2 orders.from members of this.forum and zero product received. Not a.good track record. Just hope it all works out. Most of us want a solution to ABC issues.

OK, I did take the SL600 out last night after traffic subsided a bit. I did a couple 100+ MPH passes on Beltway 8 and feel more confident than I did prior to the install of Version 2.0. Also coming out of the hole, the rear did not sit down near as much as it used to.
I'm not a particularly great driver and prefer a car with a more 50/50 balance. The car feels very nose heavy and even though I haven't pushed it hard in the twisties, but I can feel the understeer is there. This may be an issue with all SL's and perhaps worse with the V12 since it is carrying more weight up front. There was no bottoming out or scraping of any kind, which mentally I still prepare for when I see road imperfections coming.
The stance of the car is higher, which eliminates the bad-*** look it used to have, but a good trade in order to have peace of mind. I need more time in the car. I still feel more confident at high speeds in my Audi A3, which should not be the case, but maybe with time I'll get there with this set-up.
I'll put out an open invitation to anyone (must be a member of the Forum and already have an SL, no joy rides please) that wants to test drive it here in Houston prior to making the ABC conversion to see if you like how it feels. It is a major modification to the car and should not be taken lightly.
