SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: R230 Adjustable Coilover Kit : It's Finally Happening!

I just posted my experience with the MasterTech coilover conversion on my SL600 last nigh on this board. Looking at this design I would have to know a lot more to see if it solves the problems I encountered, such has what are the spring rates and travel of the dampers? Whose shock is this? Regarding the sway bar install I think you a being a bit naive' as to what that entails. It is not a direct bolt on. It requires welding isolation brackets to the frame to get the necessary stiffness. I think RMT has the design right, they just don't have the right springs and perhaps the wrong dampers as well.
Man...... I hate being right all the time!!!
Seriously though, keep us up to date. I have my reservations, but I hope this works out. I have RMT Coilover Version 2.0 setting in a box in my living room. The new dampers and springs (and control arms!) go on next Friday ( the 15th). Supposedly there is a second SL600 prototype running around south FL with this new and improved RMT set-up. I'll let the community know if this Rev 2 solves my problems.

My hope is this kit will improve on the handling of stock abc

you might be able to improve the handling, but a passive suspension will never deliver a better balance of ride and handling that an active suspension like ABC does
#108
Perhaps. But it might outperform a broken abc system in both categories, and i think that is what will create the demand for this product.

Hi Everyone!
VVK has sold many kits to date - none being from the group buy as far as I understand. They will run the $500 off discount for users here for one more week - if interested feel free to contact me and I will give you a discount code! After that it's staying at the retail price!

I think most are still waiting on proof of concept. What is the status of the system for the V12 models. Any pictures of the installed system? Any reputable member of this forum get the system installed? Will they do the install? If so, what is the cost?

FINN I want to do this on my V12. I am even interested in working with Eurocharged in the UK to stock these and do the installs in England and possibly Europe but they have to get things moving or I will have to look at other options.
Do they have a V12 currently to work out the kinks. If they do not they really need to give a forum member a great deal to use their car so they can start selling to a wider audience.

I would worry, why are these guys not even posting or answering questions on this thread. Considering it is the only product they sell on the web site you would think they would keep the people who are looking to buy up to speed. No phone number and don't answer emails, something is up.

I'm ready to buy this in a heart beat too. I love ABC, but talk about unreliable. I think all the parts are pretty reliable except the pump. The moment air runs through it, its done. I had to replace my pump 2 times since I've owned the car for almost 4 years and I have to replace it again since a bad hose dumped all the fluid on the ground while I was in NYC.
At this point I rather take better handling and reliability over comfort. I tried emailing these guys too 2 weeks ago and havent heard anything.
I'm not sure how the updated RMT kit is working out for the V12s, and the Speedriven kit doesn't have sway bars. But its clear now that we can clear out the ABC codes out of our cars, we just need the hardware to support the weight of these big engines.

I have the parts for RMT Version 2.0. Called a local suspension "expert" to get the new control arms and front struts installed including as much corner balancing as I can get. He said to bring it to him in two weeks and I made an appointment. I bring it in, leave and come back in a week with no progress. I swing back on Friday (week two now) and still no progress. I gave him my "get on it bro or I'll take it somewhere else" look and he promised to get on it this weekend.......we'll see.
On a different note......every performance shop I go to is slammed with work, right up to the point where they go out of business. Anyone know why this business model fails so frequently? The demand is there, especially if you go good work.

I just hope someone gets this sorted out soon. I love taking my SL for road trips but hate worrying ABC will break down on me

I think it is our fault ( the customer ) as we in the aftermarket are always pushing for the best deal and shopping around.
By the time rent, insurance and employees have been paid the margins are too small unless you are in the very top of the tuning market which has much bigger margins.
