Serpentine Belt Nightmare!!!

The plastic accessory pulley self destructed the other day. Replaced it and thought with 80k miles I should just replace the belt also. What a nightmare! I am this far from slipping over the water pump pulley (See pic) and that pic was taken with spring loaded tensioner maxed out. I also tried the old belt with same results. I used this picture to make sure my routing was correct. I have searched and searched this forum and can't find out what I am doing wrong.

I will look for a pic. but you can be sure of two things - either you have a wrong belt or your are doing it wrong.

you do have the correct diagram – first you remove the V-belt for the supercharger – then you do the swivel tensioning pulley at the stud bolt in an anti-clockwise direction – there shall be no trouble to do this….

you have to look at it another time and double check you put the belt in the correct way …… if your new belt are at the same size as the old one; then it’s only up to you.
I know the pulley can be very tight to loosen and it does not help you have to push it in an anti-clockwise direction … this is also the way to loosen the bolt – go figure why they made it this way …. and make 100% sure you have the correct tool for this bolt …. ells you can mess it up bad by ruining it …..

Thanks very much for that, it made me chuckle! I am doing something wrong, that's for sure and why I am so frustrated. Moving the idler pulley counter clockwise has not been a problem. It actually moves pretty far. I tried to put the old belt back on with the same results. And even if I got the thing on, I am concerned about that idler pulley not going back to home position. I am going to give it one more try this afternoon and then will have to call a tow truck.

Thanks for your input!
