clutchless supercharger pulley
Was talking with someone the other day about doing a tune and upgrade and they said they have a clutch-less pulley for the supercharger.
Anyone here have any experience with this. good bad etc.

just search the e55 board. there are several very long threads on the subject. Unless you are monitoring your IATs its probably best to steer away from them as there is then no safety mechanism to turn off the supercharger.

In fact, the amg motors are the only clutched pulleys im aware of. My Lightning only has the bypass valve and the tune to pull timing with high temps, and i run 20 lbs of boost on the stock block with a whipple for 20k miles.
That said, i agree! I would only consider a fixed pulley on a 55k after a pump upgrade (cwa50) and a kc or heat exchanger upgrade (dualpass he). Gonna do split cooling for good measure
I would NEVER recommend running more than stock boost on any vehicle without monitoring AFR, Fuel Pressure, Charge Temps (IAT2), and manifold pressure (Boost) at all times.

Iats are an issue at stock when your water pump is going out... getting a solid water pump (010 or cwa) + split cooling should be enough to support a fixed pulley.
Since im going to 77mm, its equivalent to 180mm crank, so im also getting injectors and an ftp exchanger for safety.

How much for the 77mm Crissus?
I'm running a 80mm FSP without resistor. It's smoother than a clutch and revs faster. Without the resistor the S/C isn't locked, the bypass valve stays open so you don't gather heat and you have substantial weight savings over a clutched pulley. I like it better than my 84mm clutched that I had prior. Not a bad mod for the $ IMO.

I am hesitant to install my clutchless pulley as many have reported EC tune isnt quite reliable.
Is there another option?

Can he use the EC tuning cable or does he have his own preference?

My EC tune has worked great from day 1 with and without the resistor. I got the tune and Clutched pulley from them so I got the retune for very cheap on my Fixed 80mm. That's why I stuck with them. No complaints, but I will agree with JoeNobody, I've read more happy customers from Tony concerning the FSP. Then again, maybe Jerry's customer's just aren't speaking up. I think you'll be happy either way you go. I have the box tune and it runs well. Probably need it dyno tuned properly but that's for another time.

If i have issues we are unable to sort out, Tony will be my first choice.
Thanks for the helpful feedback.
