Buying advice 2007 SL65
Going to look at a 2007 SL65, 49k miles. I've looked over this forum and not really seeing a lot of activity. What are some common things to check on this car? I see possible heat exchanger pumps, engine mounts going bad. Anything else I should look for? When I bought my C63 I learned to buy 2012+ because of head bolt issues. Anything like that on the SL?

Great info, thanks!
For it the warranty is it better to go 3rd party or through MBUSA? the car is not at a MB dealer.

I doubt if you can get a warrantee at MB but it would be the best. go ask them before hand. You also need to take the car to the dealer and have a complete cpo inspection, get them to print the master sheet, history, and get a carfax. Dont buy anything before you do all that

MB won't cover hydraulic struts, so don't waste your $$. Try Zurich, easycare and there was one more.
There is also a gal that forum members use that sells warranty over phone. You will have to search a little to find.

I acquired my warranty at the dealership. It was part of the total negotiation. I would not buy an AMG with 34,000 miles without one. There is no way of knowing (completely) how the car was driven. It is my understanding it is tough to get an all inclusive at 10 years or older. Maybe someone else can comment on that aspect. My warranty is through Fidelity. So far, so good.

USAA has a good warranty available. They will go up to 10 years old and, since it has less than 50k miles, they will warranty for 48k miles or 4 years. It does not cover convertable top issues though.

Thanks everyone! Ended up getting the car! It is in amazing condition. Driving it home 820 miles! Now time to start calling warranty companies!

yeah, we had been watching it for awhile. I've got a 14 C63 and dad loves it so he wanted an AMG car. Why not a V12 BiTurbo!? So we drove up to Chicago from North Carolina and looked at. Just as beautiful in person. The Dealer iCars Chicago owned by 2 brothers are definitely car guys and were great to work with. Had a good inventory of AMG cars too. Had a CLS55 IWC I wish we would have brought home too!

Pricing warranties now. The car just had the ABC system flushed, brakes flushed and some other maintenance done under the previous owners warranty. Unfortunately that warranty was not transferable.
There are two issues I am tackling now. First the rubber price that covers the lock button on the driver door handle is missing. Second the headliner clips separated from the headliner so I will be glueing those back in place. Everything else seems great. After a 13 hour drive I got very familiar with the interior. Only thing I can't find is how to change the oil temp to Fahrenheit from Celsius. Doesn't look possible, but I can live with that. I know it's 174 degrees in the C, so 80 degrees in the SL until its play time.

Not true. My 2007 SL65 warranty I bought from a dealer I only use for service (have never bought a car from them) sold me an MB warranty that covers everything for $5200. Car had 27K on it when I bought it.
