For a street driver I'd look for one with the later 7 speed transmission.

Been looking for that myself. Depends on what you plan to do with it. An SL55 is the cheapest performance/ COST ratio you can buy. They tune well with just a few pulley and chip tweaks and you have a 200mph car. Makes a great weekend drag-racer. The 5 speed 722.6 was retained for durability - but that tranny sucks to drive with the shift delays.

The SL55 never had the 7 speed available & can reach over 200mph stock. The reason MB factory limited them to 155 or 186 (with the p030 package) is that there wasn't a tire out there that could take the weight of the R230 at that speed. MB had a special set of tires made for a press day when the SL55 debuted and it went over 200 then stock.
