Flooded!

Stopped at the MB dealership the other day. Mentioned a picture seen on the net which showed a recent MB convertible caught in the severe rain which hit Tucson earlier this week. The gentleman mentioned that was only one of the two, the other one was an almost new SL AMG, (Black Series?) which the owner drove into a flooded area & hydro locked the engine. Cost of the new engine was reportedly $85k! Electrics still an unknown but the insurance company did not total the vehicle as yet.

wow, must have been at least a SL65 or black series with an 85k engine and insurance still not declaring it a total loss

trying to make a run through a river?

probably SL65, those V12's could be 85K, the V8 AMG in the CLS63 runs about 35k

That was most likely just a SL63. I had a few months old 2013 SL550 and the engine hydro-locked as well (flash flood).
Plain old TTV8 costs $68k plus about 40 hours labor and other potential undiagnosed stuff. Estimated repair cost was mid-$70k.

A SL65 would have been more than $80k

The car was $121k so it didn't hit the percentage to total but they eventually did. Crazy part was that there wasn't any water damage in the car at all. Just the engine.

E55 then E63, now back to an E55
It's a lot of money for an engine indeed, however I'm not surprised in the least bit!
