IMO, '13-'14 SL65 was world's most enjoyable driver's car in its day
Had 4 of 'em in family back then (moved on to S65 Coupe since)
Couple issues....latest S65 Coupe kills SL65 in driving precision/stability/aural entertainment in mtn twisties....despite weighing ~600lbs more, etc w/vastly more insulation than an SL (even top-up)
And in daily use S65 is far more advanced and enjoyable in tech/ergonomics/safety strucs&systems
SL is now for Luddites....and from what I can tell just doesn't sell
S Coupe will likely tend to have far better developed tech than SL given it is subsidized via learnings/profits from the high-volume, highly stress-tested S sedan/taxi

But then you drive it and realize how freaking heavy the car is, and how the interior is so dated.
Regardless if you like the looks of the current-gen R231 or not, reviewers agree it's a significantly better car than the one it replaces. The biggest difference (and this is not unique to the SL, it's across the whole MB lineup) is the almost vertical upright nose on all of the new car designs. I did like the R230 sloped grille much better.

Just don't like how all amg's look identical from the front

^ To be fair, the R231 is about the only current one (besides an SLS but you never actually see those) that is clearly identifiable from the front. The AMG vs 550 not so much, but an R231 is definitely somehow distinct (and so was the R230 for that matter).

The 2017 is starting to look as nice as the R230 2005-2008......they are refining it quite nicely.........from 2009 on it has been disappointing until now......
