2 Black On Black SL 65 AMG Black Series (Dealer Desperate)

I was in at the local Mercedes dealer here helping a friend find a replacement for his recently totalled R500, and they have had an '09 SL65 Black Series for about 2 years now since it was ordered and the buyer hit the financial skids and could not take delivery. I asked the sales rep, 'So....I have to know...after 2 years on your showroom floor, what will you take for that,' and he looked at me with this look of snobbery that only a sales rep in a luxury car dealer can have, and said, 'We might take $10k off sticker...maybe'. I laughed and said, 'Only $10k off of a $304k car that you have had for 2 years? Doesn't that seem to be a poor plan,' and he just looked at me and said, 'It will be a collectors item some day. It is worth it'. Okay...but last time I checked this was not a museum, it is a car dealership. Sheesh.
I hate going in to that showroom. Their service team is great, but all of their reps in the sales department are uppity jerks. Hence, why I bought my E63 somewhere else.

The dealer here in Indianapolis just FINALLY sold their SL65 Black Series after almost 4 years of having it, as I recall. The new owner has brought it out to some Cars and Coffee events from what I hear. So I am happy that someone is finally driving it.

That's so funny you guys saying paying 300k for that car is too much. :P
Where I live they go for 600k USD, or 1300k BRL (local currency)

-- EDIT: Just noticed the last post here was in july 2012... Sorry guys

I've still have yet to see the point of the SL65 BS. First off, you take away from the greatest function of an SL, the retractable roof, and replace it with a fixed roof. You slap huge wheels on there and flared wheel arches. Retune the engine a bit to squeeze a bit more HP out of the 6.0L. Add a little carbon fiber and you have a 300K+ dollar car that really isn't all that different than the normal SL65, I don't know, it just doesn't seem like a wise buy to me. Spend your money on a 110K ZR1 Vette and put another 60K into it and you'll have one of the meanest machines on the road. Just my two centers.
Cheers all

Noticed that in the last few months, prices seem to be falling steadily on these. There's a couple I've seen listed for less than 185, and most used ones seem to be under 200k. 305 out the door for one new did seem to be a little much, although when you consider a standard, loaded SL65 was well over 200k out the door then I guess it kind of makes sense. But at 185, it seems to make a lot more sense. Any speculation on what these will continue to do? For what its worth, it seems that SLR prices recently (~2-3 months) have been dropping too, not sure if this is a market-wide thing or just Benz supercars. Either way, both can be had for a steal now, although personally I'd take the 65. If I could afford one Although if they keep up like this, that might happen...

A Misunderstood Visionary's Car
Hello boys, just browsing through the blogs and had to drop my two cents in...Having owned the 65 Black since birth, I have a completely different view on this rare beauty. Yes, she can be out performed, yes, she can be ridiculed for price and value, but, consider a few things first. On my gear shift knob it says, " 1 of 175".... Here in South Florida, for example, SLRs, ZR1s, DBSs and Carrera GTs are reasonably common (however gorgeous, but "wealthy-common"). Myself and another SL Black owner agree that we are not "SL" buyers, per say. Meaning, if there were no SL Blacks produced, we would have Carrera's or Astons instead. SL's, in my opinion, are synonymous with old, wealthy dudes who want "sport" without having an actual sports car. Not to say that my grandmother couldn't drive my Black, just if she happened to drop the hammer on my DETUNED biturbo V12, she would probably visit St. Peter a little sooner than scheduled due to heart failure.
No, the designer went nuts and produced a One-Time, veritable AMG masterpiece. There is no Mercedes like it and never will be, in design I mean. Now, as for performance, my blog about being pissed off for not being trusted by Mercedes to completely release traction control is dead on. And I recently was having my once-a-week romp on the local roads and was very surprised to find that a 2013 M6 stuck to my bumper like white on rice. Even after I was in total sport mode with my foot buried in the floor board. Technology moves too quickly for ANY car to reign supreme performance.
Why does anyone buy a Ferrari, especially when I could buy a ZR1 and monkey dust one on the straights and the corners? Because, like my SL Black, the quarter million dollar Ferrari is an elegant sculpture and the Vette, well, is still just a Chevy.... You don't feel decadent in a Vette....and I know this because I bought one of the first batches of Z06 back in 2006 and it was and still is awesome, just not very refined....
I hope I shed a little light on the ol girl.... By the way, Tony Kanaan was slated for my Black, but he was getting divorced at the time and needed all the funds he could muster....Lesson to be learned.... If a guy like Tony needs funds for a divorce !!!

That is pretty cool! He must really like Black Series since he had a CLK63 Black Series for a while.
