SL65 BS sales trends.

Looking for a nice SL65 BS and finding prices from $160s on up. Were the only colors black, white and gray/silver? I've seen other colors but some are clearly wraps and others (such as red) I'm not sure about.

I'm somewhat new to the AMG family after picking up a CLK63 BS last year. I'm afraid that purchase inflicted me with an incurable desire for the SL65 BS even though I realize the SL65-BS and CLK63-BS are very different cars.

The SL65 is six years old but I haven't tracked enough sales to understand price movement but I'm guessing it's a rather slow decline at this point. Doesn't really matter--I intend to buy it to drive it!

On another post in this forum people were commenting about how quiet this forum is which seems to be true. Maybe this car is just a semi-permanent sleeper?

Looking forward to learning more about this fantastic piece of AMG engineering.

I wouldn't be surpised if it went lower not many ppl would pay that cash for a MB, they would rather get an exotic. Plus I saw a 1 yr old SL65 new 200k, the owner is now asking 148k, and thats just 1 year, SLR Mclaren 500k new, you can pick one up as low as 180-200k, and don't even get me started on SLS AMG prices, if it has an AMG badge on it it will tank year after year lol its just how the market is. Plus 65s you have to be more creative with mods then 55s and 63s

Yeah, my regular SL65 tanked in value...hard to believe a SL65BS won't either...it's a shame....soured my MB experience...Paid $48k a year ago...can't even get $40k for it now...might as well crush it....

Thanks for the feedback. These cars are very low units (350 for CLK BS and 175 for SL65 BS) yet they depreciate so drastically. Market branding and perception of value, I suppose. The fun/$ ratio just seems incredibly high with these cars! For me, the Blacks are more exclusive than so many of the F-cars that are produced in higher numbers.

I'm still whooped on the SL65 and it seems it's a buyer's market. Finding the right car... therein lies the adventure!

How many of each color were produced? Plenty of black ones for sale, silver next, then white. Some cars look silver and others more like a gunmetal gray. Were there two silver colors available, a lighter and a darker? Haven't seen a red one come up yet. Very large price spread for similar cars from $160-ish to $240k.

I think there is two different silvers colors as well but I'm not sure. I saw a red one up for sale awhile ago in FL asking for 180k

CLK63 BS prices have actually been holding steady for close to 3 years now. I think their prices have bottomed out or close to the bottom. They have been hovering around the $63K-$70K range for a long time. The ones with more than 25k miles seem to be in the $63-$65K range and sub 20k mile examples or white and Mars Red examples are fetching high $60's or even low $70's. The C63 BS's with aero package are probably holding their value better than any othe AMG ever built. They are in high demand and people are still paying close to MSRP for low mile aero pkg/track pkg cars. The non-aero car for whatever reason are selling for a large percentage of their original MSRP less than aero cars.

I am in the market for a clean low mile SL65 BS but I do not think they have bottomed out on price yet. I suspect the bottom is in the $125k range. in my opinon the SL65 BS was over priced to begin with. $300K was steep, hell my SLS BS only cost $285K and it will run circles around an SL65 BS. I have my eyes peeled for a clean low mile black SL65 BS and I am ready to strike when the right car presents itself at the right price.

GoPros are expensive man! How do you expect the man to afford one of those after buying all those cars?

Watch this dealer....very shady!
Have heard some horror stories from local peeps.

Just make sure the car has an iron clad history, all records and a thorough PPI.

Yup.. Remember, if it looks too good to be true? It probably is.. I contacted that site/link via text, asked straight out, is this a Flood or Lemon buy back? Their answer "Absolutely not sir, flawless 20k mi blabla" I simply expanded 2-3 interior pix Look at the obvious brown tinted waterline damage in trunk, on left & right carpet bolsters, all the Navagation/Phone etc elect are back there.. The center carpet piece is seperate and easily replacable, that's prolly why it appears normal.. Also appears to have leaked downwards above side bolsters, note the brownish/yellow discoloration on said areas, expand this pic as large as possible it's clear as day flood damage.. Run from this add!

So, how has ownership treated you so far? Pros and cons of ownership?
I have also been keeping my eye out for a good example and would like to hear your feedback.

This car has been a thorough pleasure. I have a CLK63 BS and the two cars are very different. The torque of the SL65 is sheer magic. I've taken the car on a 1,000 mile trip and I love that I can get service at almost any MB dealer. The local dealer has been fantastic covering maintenance (I had the rear wing adjusted). Some have said the ride is too harsh; however, I don't find that to be the case. Firm, yes, but not excessively so. The car rides very low with a long front overhang so caution is in order for driveways and dips. Nothing extraordinary, just takes a wee bit of planning.

This car does generate attention--far more than I anticipated. In the CLK63 BS you can drive around and no one has a clue that it's rather unique. Most people think the 63 is just another MB coupe. Not so with the SL65. I get comments all the time. The car is so rare few people have ever seen one in person.

When I pulled into the dealership to get an oil change recently one of the young service guys greeted me and said, "Wow, that's a cool kit car. Where'd you get it done?" I told him I got the all the fenders flares and stuff on eBay and called it a day. Even the people who should know don't know what it is.

Honestly, it's so fantastic I'm thinking of buying a second one. Now that's insanity!!!

Excellent response, glad to see you are driving it AND enjoying it.
Great story about the ebay fender flares. I had an early Viper when they came out and people were always asking about the hood vent that has a screen covering. I would tell them it was a radio speaker because the car was so fast they added one out there so the sound would get a head start!

Would love to see more pics if you have any. How is the trunk, big enough for more than a weekend? For golf clubs?
thanks again, John

I grew so tired of talking about my kit car (Misha Widebody) Usually get mobbed @ gas station, So I actually started telling people I was just getting gas for it & the owner is a celeb I can't mention lolo Best part is some times making up a dead or redonkulous Celebs name, other day I said it was Herve' Villechaize's ride & he was waiting on me to fuel it for casting in Fast N' Furious 8

Thericker, that body kit is just nuts! That's certainly not a ride you can take out in stealth mode. Holy cow! How much are you running under that black hood???

Riverflyer, a few pics attached. I laughed about the speaker in the front of your Viper! You have a PERFECT stable of cars! Z8, 3.0CSI,... magnificent!! I noticed your 512 BB (still a dream car for me), then saw the "TT." Dug it up on fchat,... omg!! What a beauty!!! One of the finest Ferraris ever, IMHO. I'd love to see that car someday.

The trunk of the SL65 BS is not spacious but it's big enough to carry bags of cash to bail yourself out of jail when you use your right foot too much. The stanchions for the retractable wing stick into the trunk area rather significantly so you just have to plan around them. Not sure if you could get golf clubs in there or not, but when you're driving one of these, who wants to golf?

Carry on.

PS, put a few pics of the CLK63 BS just as reference. Both the 63 and 65 are hooligans and should be avoided.

Last week I got the small supercharger/snout pulley installed, then full 3 hr Dyno tune on CA 91 Oct... (Already had Brabus/Startech Valve controlled exhaust) She made 490 AWHP on Autowaves brand new AWD dyno (DTL % is between 28-30%) 490/.70 = exactly 700 BHP... Coupled to stock 6 speeds 3.54's 1st gears nasty @ 4.17 it multiplies TQ like crazy

It momentarily breaks ALL 4 wheels loose from a torque/braking dig (w/full time AWD it squats down like a Panther, about to pounce on a gazelle as you load the rpm's up w/TQ/Brake stand, then when you release the brakes the front end literally launches skyward, NO exaggeration it lifts the front end a good 7-8 inches when launched like this..

Next is 3" Down Pipes w/hi flo kitty's & Larger Crank Pulley plus high octane 100-109 dyno tune.. This should easily net 800+ BHP..

PS your stable's & I absolutely luv the 65 Blk in WHITE!!!! Sweet mother of Columbus!! Stunning man, just stunning...

I have a GoPro Hero4 that's been in the box for months & months now.. I def will vid this... Quite unsettling the first time it happens, you're not @ all expecting/or ready for it to Transformer into the Space Shuttle, the front wheels are pulling so ferociously you need to literally give the "Death Grip" to this bitc-h & keep her straight or she will make her own path (tires are all brand new, & wheels are 22"s & it still more than capable of spinin' these wagon wheels) The extreme 1st gear ratio & new hp/tq are obviously responsible for this 1st gear lunacy launch.. 4.17 w/700hp 600 tq do silly things.. Ever read about gear multiplication? It has an extreme effect on an engines TQ output to the wheels, the shorter the gearing the more tq multiplication you'll see..

I can only imagine what your SL65 Blk (or any healthy modded m275 v12 biturbo) would do in the 1/4 mi 0-60 60-130 mph etc if it came w/a dual clutch trans or & tossed out the ultra tall 2.65's for 3.15 - 3.54 gearing in the pumpkin... I had a C6 Corvette w/stock 2.73's I swapped them out for 3.90's in Auto 4 speed it was night & day freak show in acceleration equal to running 4.11's in manual 6 speed..
