Headlight removal & repair

Guys,

Does anyone know how to pull the headlight and open it up to fix the reflector?

I tagged a pot hole and the reflector is pointing the light straight down.

I tried using the adjuster knobs but niether move the reflector at all.

Do I just unbolt the 2 bolts (arrows) and unclip the black clips (more arrows).

Thanks

First thing you need to do is remove the indicator unit.
This is done buy putting a screwdriver in the gap between the headlight and the indicator and releasing the catch. The unit will then pull free.

The two bolts you mention hold the headlight in.
Once removed you can carefully pull out the unit , although a bit of twisting may be required. ( the headlight not you! )
The clips are all round the unit. Just us a screwdriver. to get them back on push them on.

Thanks, but just to clarify, what is the indicator unit?
Is this the signal light or something else?

Sorry about the language differences!

Indicator = directional light ( the thing that flashes for turning )

The reflector is held in a socket. I have pulled one back into place thru the bulb hole.

Hey, let us know how this goes, because I had the EXACT same problem in my car. Went over a huge pothole and same thing... but my car's been in the shop for a few weeks getting a new transmission (and God knows my Mercedes dealer here can't do anything right) so when I do eventually get it back, I'm going to have to attempt the same repair you're doing...

Thanks!

I'll charge up my camera batteries and take some pics and make another DIY bit.

I just completed pulling the headlight and fixing it. It took less then an hour.

To remove the headlight, remove the two screws pointed out before AND there is a little clip at the bottom right of the light. To unclip the clip, lift the front of the light slightly and slide a long flat blade screw driver to disengage the clip.
Then just wiggle the light out of the car and unplug the 2 electrical connection.
The side marker (turn signal) lense comes off first by releasing the clip to the right of the bulb socket, then pull off that lense.
The black clips for the main lense house can be removed using a flat bladed screw driver.
I found that my reflector popped off the top ball joint, so I just popped it back on and tested the mobility by turning each adjuster knob.
Once I was happy, I reassembled the housing in the reverse order of the above and reinstalled it in the car.

Awesome. Hopefully my car will be back someday soon and I will try to follow your instructions!

Thanks again for this useful post!!

No problem, I just wish one of my 3 batteries were charged for the camera.
I have been using them to document the S-10 ZR2 I am rebuilding and I need tons of pictures to get it through the Salvage title inspection.

Good luck with the transmission.

headlight reflector

Hi Guys,

do you have any pics for removing the lens and resetting the reflector? How exactly do you remove the turn signal cover. I removed the bolts and am having a hard time getting the headlight out to reseat the reflector. I don't want to break it by forcing it out.

Thanks for the help

Hey, I just joined the forum here, but this was big help to me. I got a broken headlight that I need to replace (the actual lamp housing, not just the bulb) This gave me the info I needed to disassemble it without screwing anything up to badly. Appreciate the help.
