The top seals may be stuck at the windshield frame. This is common.
Try giving a push on the roof (near the windshield frame) at the appropriate time during the opening process. If you get it open, lubricate the seals with 303 Aerospace Protectant. Good luck!

eventually had to take the car to a Mercedes dealer, they hooked up the diagnostic laptop to the car and found that there were no electrical faults....they therefore think its the mechanism jamming for some reason, maybe a faulty ram or leaking pipe, any ideas ?? I 've arranged to have the car booked in for repair if I cant find the problem, thanks for all your suggestions, I'll let you know what the problem turns out to be...............

Problem turned out to be a small switch ($20) which had a small plastic lever snapped off. Its located just above the hydraulic pump for the roof, in the rear right side of the boot, unfortunately it took time to find so total bill $400 !!

The reason it didnt show an electrical fault was because the switch was still intact, what had broken was a long thin plastic arm that operates the contacts on the switch ,so it appeared to the diagnostic sensor that the fault was mechanical.....

Mine wasn't opening because it had a little oil leak. At the front edge of the hood there are high pressure pipes which goes to the ''lockers'' (sorry for my poor english, i dont remember the right word...) If there is a leak you have to replace them with new!

no hydraulic problems, the switch that was broken tells the system that the boot lid is fully open, so it can continue with opening the roof panel. It would seem that the whole system is a progression of micro switches that have to operate in a sequence. what would be useful is a diagram showing the location of these switches and sensors, if I had known which switch was faulty, I could have changed it in 15 mins !!! the switch was part no:170 820 11 10 , cost $20................

I thought I had the same problem, trunk/boot opens, vario roof gets released at front(all three switches active at front), hydraulic works perfectly, relay is obviously good. I also checked the S69/9 switch, which is the one Bazzis had problem with, also OK, or it seems. So, this leaves me with only one culprit, S69/11 switch, Vario roof "opened/lowered" limit switch, I am pretty sure that is the problem. I am going to buy the part and attempt to replace. BUT, THERE IS A PROBLEM! It is in the most difficult area to reach, I can see the switch, it is under the right rear flap among all these metal arms and wires and hydraulic pipes. Does anyone know or have a diagram as to how to remove that(S69/11) switch and replace? It certainly doen't look like a 15 min fix.
Please, anyone??

Heres a link to several diagrams http://www.slkworld.com/r170/topoperation.htm & a troubleshooting guide for the roof http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r170...ml#post3582000
I just noticed you have a SLK350, The info I just posted is wrong your car.
Sorry.
You should post your questions in the R171 area https://mbworld.org/forums/slk-class-r172-158/

Hi All...
It's been about 3 years since I was last on here (I've lost my username & password, so re-registered, so it'll look like I'm new!!) ;-P
My SLK 200 (R171) roof is giving a bit of bother. It's the rear passenger side quarter-light which sometimes won't open. It seems to work when the car is cool in the morning, but once the sun shines on it, not a hope!
I left it in with a local garage a fortnight ago and they put it on the computer saying it needs a new window motor. But it's worked every time ever since they had a poke at it, so I'm wondering could it be a bad connection or is there a temperature sensor? It's starting to play up again now in the lovely weather...
Any advice before I splash out on a new window motor kit?
(It closes every time without a problem!)
Thanks
