Audio 10 CD MF2199 + Bose CD Changer
I purchased this on Ebay replacing the cassette deck, it arrived fine from Germany plug and play, but it does not play from the Bose CD Changer in the trunk - what am I missing? I did look and look thru posts before asking, but did not find a specific thread about this issue...Lot's of Audio 10 Manual requests which I have the English Version of and will provide to anyone for free who asks. , Michael

I installed an Audio 10 CD in mine and it controls the factory CD Changer in the trunk just fine. Did you connect up the optical cable at the back of the head unit? If your SLK is a 98, it could have the older Alpine Changer that is not optical. In that case the Audio 10 will not work with it. The top socket on the head unit connects to the CD changer. Look how many pins are in your original stereo. If they are different, then you have the older system that is not optical.

I plugged in the 3 side plugs and the antenna - don't know what else to plug in. There was one additional cable (orange I think) taped off behind there, but the plug did not fit anything on the back of the radio that I could see. I would appreciate the info -

Refer to the green cap near the lower center of the back of the Audio 10. That is the optical interface. It needs to have the optical connector installed in order to work. Pull the green cap out and see if the end of the orange cables you have fits.

Here is the extra plug that was not used on the old cassette (at least when I first opened it) - this plug is too wide to even come close to fitting in the green plug and I do not see anything back there that would.

What was the old head unit / stereo? I don't think that you have an optical changer if you don't have the plug that goes in the socket that has the green cap in it. The optical system may have came out in 99 or 2000. In that case the Audio 10 CD will not control the older CD changer.

That is the older non-optical system. The longest of the 3 connectors on the stereo head unit is for the CD changer. If you notice that there are a lot more pins in it on the old stereo than on the Audio 10 CD. The Audio 10 has less pins in the connector and has the optical plug. The Audio 10 will not work with that changer.

But that would mean the Ebay Seller lied, that can't be possible. Or at least he was unaware - thank you for all your assistance, I will look for a compatible Bose CD changer to use in the trunk as I prefer the Updated Audio 10 CD player in the cabin.

Bose doesn't make the changer. It is supplied by Becker or made by Alpine. Many sellers will list specs that are not totally true.
I have the Audio 10 CD in my 2002 and it works great with the optical CD changer. I had installed it in my 96 E320 and it did not work with the older non-optical system in the E-Class. In 99 or 2000 the optical systems became standard. Any system before that do not work. If they say that it would work with the older changer, then they are not telling the truth.

I am replacing the CM2396 (with non-fiber changer) in my '98 SLK 230 with an after market HU. Have you run across an after market Alpine unit that would make use of the existing Bose amp and CD changer? I'm not committed to keeping the changer... but it would be nice not to have to bypass the Bose amp. It sounds pretty good with the stock stereo. I just want more features like bluetooth, USB, etc...
