Digi - tec chip tuning -

I have learned that Digi tec electronic system is installed in my car
(chip tuning "modified brain " thats how we call here).

I am not into tuning very much and probably i won't have the second chance to meet the first owner of my car.
My car is a 200 Kompressor - 34000 km-which is a limited production (as far as i know)and its 193 HP ..nearly the same as 230 Kompressor.

I would like to know if you have any information about Digi tec chip tuning and i wanna know the + or - in my car.(Now i understand why my air intake sensor-(debimeter) didnt work properly which cost me $$ to change).

I need your kind assistance& guidance about this matter.

Thank you!

200K

You probably have one the the 200Ks made for the Italian/Greek markets. They came from the factory with 192 hp (unlike the current 200K which has 163 hp) The difference to the current 200K (and the 230K) is higher compression and software tuning. The DigiTec chip probably doesn't do much to increase those figures, maybe 5 hp at best. If you really want to get more hp you will need to install a larger crankshaft pulley to inccrease peak boost. There are a number of companies in Germnay selling kits although I'm not sure what they would do in your model. I can recommend Vaeth.com. DigTec also offers a pulley if you want to stick with the same company, and the Danish company Kleemann.dk enjoys a very good reputation as well. These kits cost approx €1000-1,500. A possible downside of the chip is interference with the safety diagnostics, or emmissions control with excessive air/fuel ratios. However, together with a pulley, an upgrade of the chip is recommended to adapt the fuel map to the higher boost, and really adds hp. I have both on my 230K, with no problems.

What year is your SLK, and does it have the 1.8L GDI engine ?

Thank you for the information mastermind. I will contact digi tech about this.(also about the kit )
Btw you are right about the SLK 200 Kompressor production (until 2000)Its for Italy and Portugal and as also a Mediterranean country Greece and Turkey have a kind of priority in importing this model.

Nektopoli my car is produced at the end of 99 - (papers 2000 ).
I bought it as 2000 so it is counted as 2000 here but technically
1999.
As you know 2000 models have side mirrors with signals and decreased horsepower.
In web pages they usually exclude the 200 kompresor model when listing. It is really hard to find useful and detailed information about this model.
I know in States 230 and 320 is popular but you can be sure that 200 kompressor is also not that bad...

I will attach my cars pic soon...Thanks for your kind interest and help

slk 99
I'm just curious what the SLK200 producing 192hp redlines at. I've got a 99 SLK230. The redline on the tachometer is about 5800 rpm. I'm wondering if the SLK200 engine is a faster reving engine (ie. shorter stroke engine) , or just a 230 type engine (ie. smaller bore with a higher compression ratio).

rghinzel, you guessed close. The pre-facelift SLK200 Kompressor has basically the same engine as the pre-facelift SLK230 Kompressor but with a smaller displacement. The SLK200 has 192hp vs. 193hp for the SLK230 but the SLK200 had 10N-m less torque due to the smaller displacement. Redline is the same for both engines. The compression ratio is actually slightly lower at 8.5:1 for the SLK200 (vs. 8.8:1 for the SLK230). However, since the two engines use the same parts, the mass of air forced into both engines is the same, and the effective compression ratio is higher for the 200 since the air mass is being forced into a smaller volume. Consequently, the SLK200 Kompressor requires a higher octane fuel than the SLK230 Kompressor.
