Downshift hesitates
With transmission in 4 or drive and depressing gas pedel, the engine revs up to about 4000 rpm before the downshift takes place. It should shift instantly and accelerate as the rpm increases. During the time of rpm change from 2000 or so to the higher rpm when the shift takes place, the car acts as though it is no gear. The car is a 98 SLK230, automatic. Is this a sign that the adaptive electronics needs to be reset? Or does the car need service, it only has 22,000 miles to date.

I don't really know the answer to your question, but it sounds like a problem with fluid pressure.
You can reset the adaptive electronics by disconnecting the battery for like 30 minutes. Make sure you have your radio code card so you can enter the code after you disconnect the battery.

That has happened to me going on the ramp to the freeway... if i floor it. It downshifts and seems like its in neutral. I think its the lack of tranny fluid (probable reason why it doesnt do it when the car is warmed up?) My SLK is also a 98 with 20k miles on it.
