buying a 1998 slk
Hi everyone!
I'm new to the threads and basically I made an account to ask some questions
so I found a 1998 slk 56k miles, pretty clean.
now this is the first car I'm buying(I'm turning 18) and I love this thing but my dad keeps saying that mercedes never lasts and its damn expensive to repair.and it not a good FIRST car.
can you give me your opinion please? is it really like that? will it last at least until 100k miles without a repair?overall what do you think about the car?
btw its for $8500 and the seller did "B service"(4 months ago) and a 120 point inspection with all the paper work(the inspection said everything is ok).
so should what should I do? my dad wants me to get a soulless honda
so I'm just asking the actual experts for some help
any help is appreciated

Is your dad the type to say "I told you so" then if you get the SLK when ever it has a problem
He will give you grief about it.
About the car, its 13-14 years old and will have things to be replaced.
The hydraulic cylinders are very expensive $$$$ to replace, however there are kits to repair them $$ and a company that rebuilds them $$$.
also there are lots of DIY's for repairs/maintenance, a few of them are in my signature.

thanks for the help, I'm gonna contact the seller and see if the hydraulic cylinders have ever been replaced before
btw does the repair cost more than $1000? and by hydraulic you mean the system that retracts the roof?
