SLK230 idles up then down over/over - help

My 1999 SLK 230 is acting strange... Turn key It starts then idles up then down, up/down over and over but here's where it gets stange.... When I give it gas the car won't repond -still the up and down idle - when I pop the hood and manually twist the idle regulator thats gas cable connects to - I still get nothing. The car will drive slowly in drive during it's idiol cycling. Why won't it repond to the gas pedal??? A bad sensor??? It starts, idoils eractly but no further RPM's from the gas pedal.... Thank's for your help!!!

Do a search on how to clean the MAF, also search for the K40, its a known issue with the Pre face lift models.

I've replaced the K40 box and MAF 3 years ago and that made a difference back then - Do you think it could be a TPS (throttle position sensor)? part number W0133-1786802
