SLK/R170: Odd noise from the driver side rear wheel area
#1
Odd noise from the driver side rear wheel area
I have been having the same trouble with my 1998 SLK
Only happens once it warmed up (about10-15mins of driving)
I can get the noise to stop by slowing down (less than 5mph) or driving in reverse
I have turned key off while driving and no change in the noise
The have pulled the parking brake while driving and no change in the noise
I have put the car in neutral while driving and no change in the noise
Other than less than 5mph driving style, turns or road conditions does not change the noise
Wheel bearing "feel" good when on jacks
Parking brake has been inspected and is not dragging
The rear diff oil has been inspected (not drained) and is clean and full
The car has 117,000miles and does sits in a dry garage for 6month of the year.
This noise started after about month into into its 6months of use.
Thank you for all you help
