Getting a w208 w210 PSE to work in r170

As some of you have noticed the 2108001148 PSE appears to be close to an exact fit, electrically anyway. There are extra pneumatic outputs that are unneeded in our slk230 R170’s. Well it hooks up fine but low and behold nothing happens. As it turns out the R170 PSE uses one CAN protocol while the others use a separate CAN protocol. Well so I believe anyway. The r170 I think uses CAN_C (green and green/white wires) while the other PSE’s use CAN_B (brown and brown/white wires) basically different buad rates. After looking around for can/can gateways which was daunting I realized that the can interface was controlled/decoded with a microprocessor. So I opened the two PSE’s I had the old broken, burnt slk one and the new shinny 2108001148 I picked up for $60 on ebay and found they both have the same MC68HC705X32 Microprocessor. J and found that my 98 slk230 had the same pins for the CAN bus (white cable bunch pins 8, 9) and found nothing was missing from the 210**** PSE it just had extra parts. J
Long story short I swapped the old microprocessor from the burnt PSE and soldered it into the new 210**** PSE, plugged her into my car……..and ………. Wait for it……….Awesomeness occurs.
Click my remote and doors, trunk, gas cap locks.
Click again everything unlocks.
Get in the car, cabin light stays on till the doors and trunk are shut.
Hit the lock button in the car with doors and trunk shut, doors lock.
Hit the unlock button, doors unlock.
Start the car, drive away, doors lock automatically.
Opened the trunk with key but without unlocking with the remote,,,car alarm goes off.
Yummy J saved about $200$
Didn’t need to plug up the extra pneumatics as the microprocessor probably doesn’t have or won’t get the code needed to set them off.
I believe this should work for all the following part numbers as a straight Micro swap. 2108002348, 2108002748, 2088000248, 2088001248, 2108001148, 2108001948
I bet this will work with other PSE’s as well but maybe with variation of arranging CAN and other wires.
To unsolder the Microchip I shielded the other components on the board from heat and used a heat gun while lightly lifting with long metal tweezers until the chip came off. To resolder I used a fine tip solder iron on each pin.
Best of luck Paypal
