I just bought a 99 SLK and the hood release is not working. I tried pulling the hood release handle under the dash, but it was very hard to pull and the cable connection broke at the handle. I could still pull the cable without the it being connected to the handle, but the hood would still not release. The only way to get the hood open was to have another person push down on the hood while the hood release cable was being pulled.

I've lubricated the hood latch and adjusted the height casters near both fenders, but the hood will still not open when I try to pull the hood release cable. Are there any other adjustments on the hood latch? Thanks...

Change the hood release cable and or latches and move on.

PS: did you ever lift the hood during the pre sale inspection bla bla!!
