2013 SLS Conv.
SLS Suspension

Hi everyone. I am currently looking to purchase a 12' or 13' SLS roadster. I am finding some color options that I like but now I have a question on the suspension package. (I recently posted a question about the Bang Olufsen stereo)

I know that between the '12 and '13 there is the extra horsepower but what about the suspension? The '13 now comes with what was an upgrade option on the '12. I don't plan to ever tracking the car, maybe be slightly aggressive on some windy back road. Can members chime in on why I would want to have this option or why it isn't necessary? How do the cars drive differently at joy riding around town or cruising on the interstate?

Thank you all!
John

Get a '12 with the adaptive suspension. The '13 is way rougher. Good for track but, not daily living. I love the comfort mode on rough roads it's errrrrrrrrrrrrrr comfortable! Then you can still dial in full go! Read here > http://media.daimler.com/dcmedia/0-9...0-0-0-0-0.html

I own a 2011 SLS that does not have ride control. What mode would my standard suspension closely align with: C, S or S plus? I'm guessing it's S+ as it is very firm.

I have read S+ and I am trying to find the source (pretty sure I read a MB paper) for you. Do you have....

Code 486 - AMG Performance Suspension
Stiffer steel springs and shock absorbers for enhanced dynamic capability in high-performance driving situation.
(Important Note: The AMG Performance Suspension features stiffer springs and shock absorbers which can have
an impact on ride quality/compliance. This option is not recommended for customers who do not favor a very stiff
ride with limited rebound and compression characteristics.)

I do not believe that I have that option.

10 C six trizzle
Having driven both, I really dont think the adaptive suspension is much of an improvement. Do you want stiff and tight or stiff and bouncy. Neither would I call enjoyable for crappy roads or daily use unless you're really into track car suspension. The gt-s is very comparable in ride quality and has the adaptive suspension if you can swing a test drive in one to get an idea.

Found it....

Code 479 – AMG Adaptive Suspension
Electronically controlled shock absorbers (like E63 AMG) with 3 different stiffness settings.
Optional - $2,500
The AMG Adaptive Suspension features 3 different settings:
- Comfort: This setting is softer than the standard suspension
- Sport 1: This setting is approximately the same as the standard suspension
- Sport 2: This setting is stiffer than the standard suspension but less stiff than the 486 AMG Performance Suspension

Thanks, Your the man! Hard to believe there would be two suspensions that are more stiff then the standard.

Welcome! Facts were from the 2012 dealer ordering guide.
