For "fun" ... I filled out the contact form which does have some consumer contact choices on it. I asked for 3 to 5 dealers I could contact in my area for price quotes...test out their customer service.

Hi Mary,
Do you see any Mercedes dealerships in the Orange County even Los Angeles area that offer your service? I would feel more comfortable buying through a MB dealer that would do the work too. Thanks again!!!
I don’t have any MB dealers in that area.

They are good well built and reliable cars. A lot of those facts are anectotical. I'm sure your chances of having to replace the transmission in the next 3-5 years is low. Perhaps on the 2-3%. There is no data to support the transmisions of the SLS are prone to fail.
Self ensure. Put 30k on the side Just in case.
There is a reason why insurance companies take the risk and make all that money. They created that "culture".
Just my thought.
It is amazing how much money I have saved in my life Just not buyig "extended
Warranties".... Electronics, jewelry, home,etc.

I just looked at a used SLS Black, and asked my local dealer if they could sell an extended warranty on it. Car is currently not for sale by a Mercedes dealer and is still under warranty. My local dealer said they can ONLY sell it to the original owner (annoying).

There is an ELW available on the SLS, but the vehicle has to meet certain conditions and here are the details:
- A pre-owned SLS would only be eligible for an ELW only if it meets the following conditions:
o The customer purchased the vehicle privately or through a non Mercedes-Benz dealership AND
o The vehicle has not gone through a Mercedes-Benz dealer’s pre-owned inventory AND
o The vehicle is still under the new vehicle factory warranty.
----> Otherwise it would need to be a Certified Pre-Owned by the dealer and then it would be eligible for the CPO ELW.
if the dealer is unsure of the process they should call the WSG (Warranty Services Group)

I would also call Jamie above. He will let you know for sure. Quite frankly you should just self insure. If you can stroke a check for $450k++ .... just put $20k aside for repairs. I doubt you will put enough miles on it to break anything anyways. These cars don't break that often..

I took a flyer on something called The Warranty Group. Another SLS guy here turned me on to it. It was $3500 and a 5 year plan with I think a $250 deductible. I say I think because I haven't used it yet but another guy on this forum had great success with it.
Chris below can walk you through it. Tell him David with the SLS Roadster in SoCal reffered you.

+1 for Ed's recommendation of The Warranty Group. I went through Chris as well and it was simple to get coverage...now I gotta find time to drive the car!

Spoke to Jamie. Great recommendation. He told me opposite of my local MB dealer - Jamie said as car is STILL under factory warranty AND is NOT being sold by a MB dealer, that extended factory warranty is absolutely possible, and gave me prices.
I have someone going to inspect one of the SLS Blacks I'm considering tomorrow.
If car works out, I realize the gamble of the extended warranty, but I sort of favor it.
