Here I am 13 years later, still owning the car and doing the starter AGAIN at around 252K miles. So thats how long the originally starter lasted with only a brush replacement and cleaning. This time I located a new Valeo starter made in Poland, not China, no way) for only about a buck and a quarter including shipping and no core charge. I pretested it also to make sure it's good.
I'm mad at myself for not listing the bolt sizes. The main 2 bolts are E16 Inverted Torx and the accessory bolts that hold the
wires and other lines are E12 I think. I'll confirm that on reinstall. I had so many possible tools under the car, but
really only needed a 17mm to remove the left front wheel, an 8mm to remove the covers,
E12 to remove 3 small bolts holding wires and hoses at bay attached to a small plate that is attached by the bottom E16 bolt.
The E16 was in tight tight tiight! I used something I didn't have the 1st time, and open end E16 in combination with a piece of steel pipe for leverage.
Another new tool that came in handy, was this slim rachet from Harbor freight. I bought a whole assortment of rachets
but so far only the one has been useful. https://www.harborfreight.com/14-in-...het-67993.html
Open end swivel racheting dedicated metric wrenches would be even better. Always wanted a set of those, but they are damn expensive.
I have gotten as far as getting the car up on jacks and all the bolts but the top bolt out,
just been too busy to get back to it. Maybe tonight I'll at least get it out.
I also bought this wacked out dual swivel rachet thought it could reach the top, but no.

So I came back here to see how I had assembled my extensions to reach the top bolt.
Better then reinventing the wheel while under the car.
I don't know how anybody is able to access it any other way, you can't see the thing,
and barely even touch it. So, I'll put the bottom bolt back in loosly to support and go for that top
bolt soon. TBC
