Anyone tried pressing the bearings out and in on front hubs?

I like to save money where I can and i noticed that front wheel bearings are only $15/set where as replacement hubs with bearings run about $130. I don't need the hubs (none of us really do) and I have a press but not the tools. It looks straightforward and I can make up the bearing fitments for the press on a lathe.

Has anyone tried this? It's tempting. I would save some bucks. Both are way cheaper than a shop.

you don't need to press it in. They're serviceable, just pack them and throw them back on. I replaced my front bearings for dirt cheap.

What do you mean? I don't need to press them?

Mine are making noise. I am certain it is the bearings. I am accustomed to replacing them in these cases.

Are you saying that I can repack them and adjust the load and all will be well?

I figured they were worn out.

yep. Just repack and tighten them and they'll be fine. I opted for new ones but did not press anything. I reused the part on the right and just replaced the part on the left in this pic:

You can replace only the bearing (if the road not seems to have any sign of wear) if the road have wear, the new bearing got toasted in 1 month again

If you replace just the bearing and not the race then you are wasting your time and money.

I agree. Do the job right the first time. Replace both the bearing and the race. Even if it looks ok, it might be worn.

youre going to the trouble of that .. replace both and speaking from experience , if you havent done it before take it to a shop with a press and ask them to press it for you
