School me on suspension

Hey guys, looking to lower my E55 a little bit, was wondering what is the best set up? Bilstein all the way? I know there is a guy that bought springs of ebay for like $100 or something like that. Was wondering how's that working out?
Do I need to upgrade my shocks or can I keep it stock?
Thanks in advance.

Should I do springs + shocks? Should I just change the pads? Or all of it?
