Star emblem on air cleaner front cover

Star emblem on air cleaner front cover
Yup.
It finally broke and fell off.
So, I was thinking.......the trunk emblem is the same diameter.
Has anyone put a trunk emblem in place of the original air cleaner front cover? That plastic POS shouldn't be in the engine compartment!
Fabio? I recall that you had a secret fix for this emblem...Is this your secret?
New trunk emblem via mail order (factory original) $11.47 plus shipping.
New trunk emblem at dealer??? Probably $200+

I've seen a bloke who replaced it with a trunk emblem from an S-class. Worked well for him, wasn't a direct fit though.
Not sure the W221 or W220?

Hahaha Yes thats what i do, but i use the W202 trunk emblem cause the W210 sedan is not flat and wont fit :S i try it, i do 3 little holes in the plastic cover like the trunk comes and install the emblem in place 
looks perfect, is just some mm's more large but is not noticiable.
You can measure the W221 emblem now, maybe is more exhact than the W202

When I got the RennTech airbox, I did a preventive maintence on my engine cover star emblem. I knew eventually it will fall out as I read about it here. I actually took it out carefully and re-installed it with a small drop of super glue in the back of the three stubs going into the holes. I then got some tiny screws and make tiny holes with a dremel on the back of the stubs and screw them on in the back. The flat head of the screw will prevent the emblem from coming off

Good work snoozie! the problem with this star is that it tend to crack alone with the engine heat i suppose. mine pell off the chrome first, and then the plastic cracks itself and pop out completly brokened. Hope yours not looses or break in many time bro

I think that I will order one of each: W202, W220, and W221. Or try to measure each type before ordering.

enjoy!!Back to the subject...mine, the paint peel but so far did not break. If this thing ever come loose, I think I'll get a cut out of the star and paint it silver. That will look pretty nice on the black cover....most of the race cars had their hood badge painted on so why not.

Here you see my original emblem, or what is left of it. The recess in the front engine cover is 3.25 inches. The emblem attached with 6 small tabs from the plastic emblem.
I ordered two trunk emblems. The first one is for the W210 trunk. Yes, it is curved. It will not fit correctly. It was cheap enough at the online parts store.

W210 curved trunk emblem was almost the same diameter. It looked like it would be slightly larger the engine cover recess area.
Also, three center mount holes would have to be drilled.
The seconed trunk emblem I ordered was the part number provided here. For the GLK (or ML?)

The one i use is the W202 emblem (a little larger) but when it is installed is not perceptible the difference (just with a close look)

I didn't like the fit for either one.
I will order the W202 and the W221 when I get back to this project.
