SRS light and passenger seat
SRS light has come on, but it goes off when someone sits in the front passenger seat. Got any ideas about what is going on?

srs light
this could just be a connector issue. somehow the connector has come loose and/or the contact inside the connector is not "firm". all of these "srs lights" works off of resistance. either too high or too low.... if you know someone with a star/das, just hook it up and read the fault codes. need to know what it is but if no one in your area has one, look under the seat and make sure all your connections are solid. the passenger seat have a sensor "inside" the seat cushion to detect when a "baby seat" is there and to not deploy the airbag but when a normal weight person is sitting there, that sensor is "off" and will allow airbag deployment.

If the above fails. The SRS unit has failed. This happen to me and it was a daunting task as I had to remove the seat and take apart the bottom seat cushion to get to the module itself. I bought a used SRS unit on E-bay. Haven't had any issues for over 2 years. Just don't let anyone knee the passenger seat cushion as it can cause stress to the unit itself and fail. *my GF tends to do this on our road trips to get to the back

*One thing to note if you have multi contour seats it makes it that much harder to re-install

seat sensor
no it won't. you have whats called an airbag control module in the middle console area deep behind the ashtray area. this control module is like the "brain" for all the airbags. your seat sensor was/is mainly for child safety and/or if a passenger is there. no need for the airbag to deploy if there is no one sitting there and if someone decided to put a baby seat there, being the weight is less than the "set weight by mercedes for average person" then the airbag again will not deploy. there are attachments sold on ebay to "trick" the sensor in believing there is someone in the passenger seat at all times and bag will deploy if in an accident to bypass the "srs warning light" and to get rid of the "default" without spending a lot of money fixing the seat sensor. so with a passenger seat sensor "error" the worst thing that may/will happen is the passenger side airbags may not deploy and/or may be a delay in the deployment but it will not affect any other airbag through the rest of car. the airbag control module handles that. sorry so lengthy??? i suppose i could have just answered, no.

SRS Light
Don't sweat it. The pass. seat recognition sensor is only for special child seats developed by Mercedes to allow youy to put child in front seat. Airbags will still function normally.

Thanks for the tip on the Ebay item. Do you recall the item name on Ebay?

Mine had a broken wire under the seat, which connected to the passanger sensor. I'll bet mine isn't the only one that the assembler didn't get right. Ziptied the wiring to the seat frame with no slack. I spent 2 hrs removing the seat and fixing the open conductor. That was it.

I resolved the SRS light problem by purchasing a passenger airbag seat occupancy child seat recognition unit emulator - bypass. I bought it on EBAY from airbag360_shop. All I had to do was plug it into the connector under the passenger seat. I started the E55 and the SRS light went out. Before I found this unit I bought two units from China and they did not work. I believe the key was to find one with child seat recognition technology. I hope this helps others with the same seat issue.

I might need something like that. My SRS light comes on when my wife sits in the passenger seat (she is heavier than a baby) and it goes off when no one is sitting there. Could it be the same problem?

My problem is the exact opposite. It comes on after someone sits in the seat. But after a while, it goes back off.
Now if someone sits in it, gets out, it's on..then if they get back in, it goes off. Wtf? Lol

SRS light on-only with passenger
I'm having the same symptom as illest. Everything normal on the dash except when there is a passenger in the right seat. Then I get just the red SRS light, never the airbag light. Any suggestions? Illest, did you get yours fixed?
Thanks.

I still have not fixed mine. Now I get the SRS light and the airbag light when someone sits in the seat or if I put my bag (less than 5 pounds) on the seat.

Honestly if you have a car upholstery in your area that would be your best bet- Those guys are pros. Have them put the module in/plug in- done
