Should I buy a Kleeman W210 with 162,000 miles?
I have a chance to buy a 2001 E55 with some big upgrades. The problem is by now, I fear these upgrades may have worn the car out.
It's a 2001 E55 with 162,000 miles on it and I assume it will drive perfectly if I go there and drive it.
It appears to have been maintained well but the Kleeman supercharger was added ten years ago, and I suspect, 100,000 miles ago.
They recently replaced the front crank seal which has me wondering if perhaps the engine is worn out.
They also did a trans service at 150K but not a flush, just a pan drop and filter (3 quarts). I have serious concerns about the transmission.
It's a stock exhaust (no Kleeman exhaust) I suspect for emissions.
It s good price $9,500 but considering the risk, I am seriously hesitating.
I can work on these cars myself but an engine rebuild or trans replacement is not something I want to take on.
I would love some/any opinions.

IMO, 160K miles is a timing bomb. Soon the tranny need to be rebuild and many thing can go wrong. The worse case is to remove the SC kit but you still have to retune back to original tune. A highly modded car like this don't really increase the value it's self with high mileage. A same mileage year E55 worth around $6K to $7K depend condition. I don't think this car worth more than $8K. Anything break down will cost you a lot of $$$. How about other mod ? Header too ? I don't recommend it.... just too much risk unless you can fix everything yourself include rebuild the tranny. Good luck !

Thanks for the replies.
Kleeman was installed in 2005. Trans service was done at 150K. I made him a low offer with an explanation.
I agree with everything you said CharlyE500. It's gotta be pretty worn out.

Supercharger can last more than 10 years but other components are hard to say. I rather get W211 E55 that has more parts in the market and people really know W211 now and also with more after market parts to upgrade.

Thanks all, I found out that opalw208 posted about this car (and a bazillion others) many years ago. Some question as to whether any were actually owned by him or her. Regardless, steering clear of this. Made them an offer of $7500 with a 3 month warranty explaining the risk. Never heard back.
