Rear window regulator
I replaced my rear passenger window regulator today. It was easier than I thought. I got an estimate for almost $300. I figured I would give it a try. What would be the harm. I purchased one from am auto parts for less than $23.00 with free shipping. This was the first regulator I have ever replaced. It took me less than an hour. So I would definitely encourage anyone to try it yourself..

My regulator just went on my 02 E55,the motor works,do I need just the regulator and the 4 rivets or just get a new one with motor? Funny is ,that it was the rear passenger side which I never use. Just came out one morning and it had slid halfway down the door. Any advice

Due to the design of the rear window regulators they're more likely to fail than the ones for the front windows. When the window is up the cable is under tension. It doesn't have much to do with use.
I had my driver's rear fail out of nowhere recently on the wagon.

Depends how it broke. If you want you can buy the regulator (without the motor), but I'm guessing it's the white plastic piece that ALWAYS breaks in these. You can actually buy that piece for just a few dollars - buy a few of them because the regulators always fail.

Are you saying you can buy the white plastic part on the regulator by itself? Or buy a regulator without motor?

Both.. You can buy the white plastic piece new from either eBay or Amazon or Autohausaz, I forgot where I saw it..
You can also buy the regulator without a motor.. You’ll need a rivet gun and some rivets to do the job. It’s pretty easy. Also a drill to drill out the old rivets.

I’m surprised nobody has made heavy-duty plastic ones.. Those things break like crackers, Benz ones included..
I think it’s the slight curve of the track design that makes them break so prematurely..
Have all the service records on my car and the first window regulator replacement was at 7k miles.. Notorious problem with W210s.
