Benz Drag Race Showdown MIR 11/22/08 Discuss!

Where: Maryland International Raceway www.mirdrag.com Directions To MIR When: 11/15/08 9AM-6PM $100.00 We will have both lanes open to run as many times as you want on arguably one of the fastest tracks in the country. It will be fully prepped and ready for some serious drag racing action. There are many local hotels and motels in the area close to the race track. Please note that this is a fairly rural area, and you may find nicer accomodations closer to Washington DC which is about a 45 minute drive away. This is a run what you brung event, no classes, line up against your buddy or your "competition" I am personally hosting this event with my business partner Blackbenzz/Ahmad. This is a not-for-profit event. We will also have event t-shirts available with 100% of the proceeds going to charity. If anyone has specific questions, post them here or feel free to PM me. Lets use this thread to discuss this event and use it as the official sign up sheet. I look forward to meeting meeting new faces, this is guaranteed to be a memorable event!!!! Count me in Jason representing the east coast E55's. Thanks for the links. I think it would be cool to have different classes etc but I guess we got pleny of time to figure that all out.

Between now and then I'm sure we will all have plenty of time to figure out what kind of times we are all capable of. Based on that information we can start to set up some good head-to-head races, maybe even use corrected figures, because if this track is as fast as you all say it is my current best 12.19 should be good for close to a 12.0 at MIR. Hopefully by then I will be running 11.50's here... We can get the 11 second guys lined up with with other 11 sec guys 12 second guys...etc. I'm sure there are going to be a lot of good grudge races. It looks like the high 11 to low 12 second cars are going to have the best and most competition, but I can't wait to see some of those big V12 tt's make some 10 second passes. I can't wait!

You know, us FAMARS up here in Maine use the Farmers Almanac for our long term weather forcast. I guess we should see what it has in store for us for Nov. 15, 2008 in Mechancsville MD.

How's the carrier shopping going? I made a few calls for you guys this morning. I actually found a carrier that will ship round trip from one location in OC to a one destination drop point for $2000/car if you guys can get at least 6 cars. That price is cash or certified funds, no credit cards. Only thing is it is an open carrier (not enclosed) which is really no big deal, the cars are still not going to be hit by any road debris, the cab of the truck takes those blows. Only real negative to open carrier is the car will need a good wash when it's unloaded.

Let me know what you guys are coming up with at your end.

jcart, you were absolutely right. At first when I got a quote to ship one car (mine), I was quoted by this fancy company $2800 one way (closed trailer, covered by high insurance, careful drivers, and excellent equipment; they're supposed to be one of the best companies for transporting exotics). Anyways, today I called them and got a quote to pick up 6 cars from one location and bring them back. Guess what? They quoted me $2500 (round trip). That's a big freakin difference Total cost per car went down from $5600 down to $2500.

I'll bet if you make a few more calls you can get an even better price, I got quoted $2000 per car open trailer. A one pick and one drop cross country trip is a dream job for a carrier. Just stress to them the importance of having the car get there on time, with all the cars I have had shipped over the years never has one been picked up or delivered as promised...NEVER! Chances are good that the cars are going to arrive before you do. I'd talk to one of the East coast guys about possibly signing for the cars when they are dropped, unless you are going to just have them delivered to the track. Trust me when I say to leave a day or two of play in there, If the event is on Saturday, tell them you need the cars there on Thursday night or Friday morning. A lot can go wrong on a 3500 mile trip and you don't want you cars on a truck when the X-mas tree lights up.
