What does your tach read at 80 MPH?
I didn' t get much response in the W209 forum so I thought I'd try here.
If I set cruise at 80 MPH my tach reads 2800 RPM
at 70 MPH it reads 2500.
This seems too high compared to a 3.5L Honda Odyssey V6 (2200 and 2000 RPM respectiveley) or to my E320 V6. Almost seems like it needs an extra gear for highway driving. I have checked it on "comfort" and "sport" modes.
Is this just the way the transmission is tuned to operate?

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
E320 gear ratio
I have had a 96 E320 with straight 6 4valves and it was higher reving than our 2002 E320 with a V6 3valves set up. It would be nice to know what year and type of engine you have. The transmission and rear end gears are different from model to model and year to year, I think.

it is 05 CLK55 and '99 E320.
It's the CLK that seems to rev high.
I remember driving a Corvette once and at highwya cruising speed the engine was hardly at work. tach was 2000 or less I think.
