I have a EC tune and I have no problems using my Chinese knockoff Xentry.

So do I. It's not the tune, it's the messed up Xentry/DAS install or ****ty hardware.

I'm trying to lower the car, do the -10 fan mod, turn the beepers on for locking/unlocking and general dicking around.

To be honest, I did not like the -10 mod. The fan seemed to run all the time trying to lower the temp, but if the thermostat is closing at lets say 185 it will be imposible to lower the temp down below that unless you change it out. I set mine back to 0 change.

I see someone really wants to damage his car. You think MB set the temperature where it's set to just for fun? Don't you think they would have lowered the threshold if this would be better for the engine?

AIRmatic lowering beyond the OEM specs is bad for the struts. If the manufacturer would have wanted the car lower they would have fine so. Internally there will be so much more pressure to balance this out. I hope you will never have an accident with fatalities caused by this. There is a reason I deny every request to lower cars no matter what method (SD, washers, control units piggy backed to the system to override settings,...)!

-10 mod can be loud if you live in a hot climate. Can always pick a less aggressive offset like -5. You are correct about the thermostat closing, as then the engine will be the ideal temperature, but having the fans come on sooner will speed up cooling off to the thermostat temp (unless the thermostat has closed but fans are still running, which I don't think is going on, since the fans eventually do turn off)

I've not read of any damage being done to a car with any of the things I want to do. I live in the tropics, I need all the cooling I can get. Also, I think the front sits too high. With the amount of cars lowered by STAR/links/washers on this site, if it was a problem with blowing out bags, Surely we would know about it? Manufacturers are constrained in what they can do, for comfort, looks, longevity. Hence why people mod, to get what they like from the car, and they cars don't suffer from it. People fit wider tyres than stock. That places extra stress on the driveline, but no one gives a **** about that. That's one of the hundred mods people do to their cars that they weren't designed for.

Some designs are a compromise, but the cost factor is always there. I've had meetings in Affalterbach and asked why AMG never puts headers on their engines. Their answer was simply cost and that they would leave it to the aftermarket tuners. Yet 50 years ago when design not cost was the primary objective, a 300SL had beautiful fabricated headers (Ferrari does so to this day). Even as late as 1972, the M100 engine had well designed cast-iron headers. Ironically, 1972 was the last year Mercedes produced a hand-built car, with the exception of the E500 "Hammer" which was actually built by Porsche.

Looking to adjust/turn down the cold idle on start up. Engine will shoot up to 1800 and then very slowly come back down. So makes for a louder cold start coming out of garage early morning waking everyone up. When warm no issue. Any adjustment to this or is it just programmed this way. Thanks

Hi Guys,

First time poster from Melbourne Australia!

Absolutely fantastic thread and I have spent the past couple of days going through all the pages so thank you to all who have contributed.

One question I have is when lowering the car through STAR do you have to lower the car on all three different suspension settings? Does it matter what setting you are in when lowering the car?

Thanks in advance,

Jamie

Question.. My buddy just let me borrow his whole SDS set up with cables, C3, and an external hard drive which I guess has the program on it. Should I be worried about installing the VMware or anything else on my laptop before I go all in?

Also, He could never get his to work as his reasoning was that he needed a key code of sorts that is based off of your VIN number.. If I were to run into that same issue, how would I get said code to be able to use SDS?

All you need is a good working VMWare image, working SDS hardware, and a USB serial dongle with prolific chipset.

Will all of this work? I need a laptop to use just in case the hard drive is infected..

Once I get it all up and running, how can I get the access code to be able to use SDS? That was my buddies issue, he couldn't figure out how to get the entry code to be able to use SDS
