Having brake problems and dealer says it's not the SBC.

I have my Brake, Visit Workshop on my display ( white letters, black background ). I've replaced the pads, sensors and the brake light switch. Light is still on so I took it to the dealer to see if the SBC was faulty. They told me that the pressure reservoir was bad and that it was not covered by the SBC warranty.

Is this "pressure reservoir" the same thing as the accumulator? I saw it for $700+ on a website which is pretty crazy...lol. Dealer wanted $1500 for the part and labor.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? If anyone has the part used I might buy it for a decent price...

Whatever we're tuning!
The accumulator and pressure reservoir are the same part and it attaches at the bottom of the SBC hydraulic unit.

The accumulator is p/n A0004301394 and parts.com's price is $547.40/List is $795. They do hammer you on the shipping though.

I would try and bleed the system first before changing anything unless you saw the actual SDS error on their tablet at the dealer.

Hope this helps!

I would call MBUSA, SBC has a ten year warranty.

It does help...thanks!

I was thinking about maybe flushing the system out first and refilling/bleeding it to see what happens. Push comes to shove, I'll just swap out the accumulator.

That isn't the problem, they said the SBC is fine. It's the accumulator that is faulty.

That PDF is nice.

The problem is that the dealer says the accumulator is NOT part of the SBC warranty. Just the SBC pump it's self. I'm going to email MB USA and see what they have to say. If they respond quickly I'll just print the email and send it to the dealer.

You need a trustworthy dealer first.

That pdf page 17&19 are quite reassuring... I was always told of a back up system in case of failure, but was never sure...

Somewhat of a relief although I may need to go to gym to get to 500nm of force from one leg!

Well, I finally got an answer from MBUSA. They said that ONLY the SBC PUMP is under the 10 year warranty. Any other part of the SBC system, including the accumulator, is not. So I guess I'm out of luck on this one.

Brake error

I also got the same error on my E280 (2006) a month ago. Visited the mercedes service center this week and they have given a long list of things to be replaced:

SBC pressure reservoir: AED 4,660
SBC suction line: AED 1,390
Front brake pads: AED 1,150
Rear brake pads: AED 1,130
SBC brake system fluid: AED 810
Total: AED 7,990 (USD 2,200)

All the prices above include labor also. This is in addition to regular minor service and some other maintenance. So overall the bill comes down to AED 14,400 (USD 4,000) - which is too much.

Do anyone of you please know of any good mechanic shop in Dubai who I can visit to get another quote for comparison? This mercedes service center seems quite expensive.

Please let me know.

Thanks

I have the same problem, living in Abu Dhabi, tried to contact the EMC (Mercedes Benz) and was told that it is not under warranty! Iam not sure as most of the forums, people are publishing that the whole SBC system is under warranty for 10 years from the year of manufacture, as my car is 2003, so it is considered to be under full warranty!

Anyone please assist!!

Tariq, what was the solution you made for your car?

1.)Find a friend with SDS. Under SBC go into 'Actual Values' then pressures. Look for a 'Pretension pressure' value or something similar (Im still waking up) If its under the specified parameter 68bar, then it is the accumulator that screws into the side of the SBC unit.

2.)If that's the case just buy it and install it yourself. Now some people are going to cry about this next part but I've tested it twice. There's a good chance you wont have to bleed the system after. There's minimal fluid loss during the swap and in SDS there's a 'check for air in system' procedure and during the 2 testing trials without bleeding, the system didn't recognize any air and performed flawlessly.

However when I replaced mine I did do the pain in the *** bleeding procedure. I suppose if you have a friend with SDS you would do this step anyways. Up to you good sir. Good luck

Great info! The code for faulty pressure reservoir just popped up on my car two days ago.

I replaced mine myself and did not bleed the system. The error went away and the car drive perfectly. After however many months I swapped out all the fluid ( regular maintenance ) and bleed the system and it felt just the same as before so I guess the SBC has a was of purging any air inside the valve body.

Mercedes Dealership here in Dubai claims that the 10 year warranty does not apply in this region. Can that be correct? I have been trying to get an answer out of Daimler AG, Stuttgart without success. You would think Mercedes had an international warranty.
